Excited-state nickel-catalyzed C-N cross-coupling of aryl bromides with sodium azide enables the synthesis of diarylamines and primary anilines under mild reaction conditions. The oxidative addition of electron-rich aryl bromides with low-valent Ni under the photochemical conditions is endothermic. Herein, we demonstrate a light-mediated nickel-catalyzed reaction of electronically rich aryl bromides that yields diarylamines, while the reaction with electron-deficient aryl bromides gives access to anilines at room temperature.

The goal of this work is to compare the key parameters of influenza epidemics of different etiology. Four epidemics of influenza with predominance of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and 4 epidemics of influenza A(H3N2) were analyzed using the database of the Federal State Research Institute of Influenza on morbidity, hospitalization, deaths from influenza in 59 cities in the period from 2009 to 2017. The intensity of epidemics involving the influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 decreased from high to medium, while the intensity of epidemics of influenza A(H3N2) increased from low to medium.

A dramatic increase of influenza activity in Russia since week 3 of 2016 significantly differs from previous seasons in terms of the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory infection (ARI) and in number of lethal cases. We performed antigenic analysis of 108 and whole-genome sequencing of 77 influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses from Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Most of the viruses were antigenically related to the vaccine strain.

Comparative analysis of the three past epidemics with the participation of the pandemic influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 was conducted according to the results of the epidemiological trials of two WHO National influenza centers for the morbidity, hospitalization, and mortality of the influenza in 59 cities of Russia for the period from 2009 to 2013. The first wave of the pandemic of 2009 was the most severe. Compared with this wave, during the next epidemics of 2011 and 2013, the involvement of urban population in the epidemic was reduced, as well as the morbidity in the people 15-64 years old and schoolchildren 7-14 years old.

The comparison of the first and second waves of the pandemic influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 in the world and Russia was performed on the basis of weekly reports of Regional offices for Europe and on the data of the Federal Center for Influenza on a weekly incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, hospitalization, and mortality from the influenza in the age groups of population in 49 cities of the Russian Federation. The first wave of the pandemic, which continued in the countries of the world all summer, was of mixed etiology and, in spite of the availability of imported cases, has not caused a steep increase in Russia. Exchange of information on and sharing of influenza viruses through the GISRS network has great significance for understanding influenza virus evolution, recognition of a new pandemic virus emergence and for preparing annual WHO recommendations on influenza vaccine strain composition. Influenza surveillance in Russia is based on collaboration of two NICs with 59 Regional Bases. Most epidemiological and laboratory data are entered through the internet into the electronic database at the Research Institute of Influenza (RII), where they are analyzed and then reported to the Ministry of Public Health of Russia.

Carnosine is a known protector of neuronal cells against oxidative injury which prevents both apoptotic and necrotic cellular death. It was shown earlier that carnosine serves as an intracellular buffer of free radicals. Using the model of ligand-dependent oxidative stress in neurons, we have shown that homocysteine (HC) initiates long-term activation of extracellular signal regulated kinase, isoforms 1 and 2 (ERK 1/2) and Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) which corresponds to exitotoxic effect resulting in cellular death.

The aim of the work is the comparison of the epidemiology of influenza and acute respiratory virus infections (ARVI) in the Republic of Kazakhstan with the corresponding influenza epidemic in Russia induced by influenza pandemic virus A/California/07/2009 in 2009. Data on influenza and ARVI from the Republic of Kazakhstan and Federal Center of influenza was collected and investigated over the course of several weeks from hospitalized patients with the same diagnosis among all population and in age groups on 16 territories of Kazakhstan and in 49 major cities of Russia. The epidemic in Kazakhstan resembled the Russian epidemic in terms of its abnormally early beginning, expression of monoaetiology, the spread of the epidemic into all territories and start of the epidemics among adult population.

Using SK-N-AS human neuroblastoma cells, which co-express the alpha1 and alpha3 isoforms of the sodium pump alpha subunit, we selectively silenced either the alpha1 or alpha3 subunit by means of transfection with small interfering RNA, and investigated cell survival and the cellular response to ouabain. We found that both of the alpha subunits are essential for cell survival, indicating that substitution of one subunit for the other is not sufficient. In the presence of both alpha subunits, ouabain causes sustained activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1 and 2 (Erk1/2).

Inhibition of rat neuronal Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase alpha3 isoform at low (100 nM) ouabain concentration led to activation of MAP kinase cascade via PKC and PIP(3) kinase. In contrast to ouabain-sensitive alpha3 isoform of Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase, an ouabain-resistant alpha1 isoform (inhibition with 1 mM of ouabain) of Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase regulates MAP kinase via Src kinase dependent reactions. Using of Annexin V-FITC apoptotic test to determine the cells with early apoptotic features allows to conclude that alpha3 isoform stimulates and alpha1 suppresses apoptotic process in cerebellum neurons.
