Purpose: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a prevalent and distressing complication, especially in laparoscopic surgeries. This review compares the efficacy and safety of palonosetron and ondansetron in preventing PONV after laparoscopic surgery.
Methods: A systematic review was conducted in PubMed, Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, and Cochrane Library to identify comparative studies that reported the efficacy (nausea and vomiting) at three postoperative time points T1 (0-2 hours), T2 (2-6 hours), T3 (6-24 hours) and safety (incidence of adverse effects).
Introduction: Non-pharmacological distraction using video games (VG) is still under-explored in pediatric surgical patients.
Materials And Methods: We conducted this randomized controlled study of 150 children, aged 4-12 years, scheduled for elective surgery in a tertiary care hospital to estimate the distractive effect of VG on immediate preoperative anxiety in children. In the intervention group (I), playing with VG was encouraged till anesthetic induction.
Scalp nerve block (SNB) attenuates the hemodynamic response to pin insertion and delivers excellent postoperative analgesia. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of SNB using ketamine as an adjuvant to bupivacaine on perioperative hemodynamic responses and postoperative pain in patients undergoing craniotomy for supratentorial glioma. Sixty patients were randomized into two groups.

Management of infection is a critical aspect of wound care. It involves the application of various interventions to treat the wound and prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of the body, which may lead to serious complications, including sepsis. Local treatment of skin wound infections is the favored route of administration, reducing the risk of adverse systemic effects while providing very high therapeutic concentrations at the target site.

Recent advancements in endoscopic techniques offer enhanced visibility and outcomes. This retrospective study compares endoscopic and microscopic tympanoplasty outcomes in CSOM patients between 2023 and 2024.

This raised the possibility of testicular cancer, especially given his recent treatment for bladder cancer, which included adjuvant intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) therapy. This poses a diagnostic dilemma regarding tuberculosis (TB) of the testis, BCG complications or a true testicular malignancy.

The erector spinae plane (ESP) block is a recently evolving entity and has a dynamic role in postoperative pain management. However, its role in the management of pain in lumber spinal surgeries is still not clear, and the literature remains anecdotal.

HACOR score has been exclusively calculated for patients on NIV, on other hand ROX index is being used for patients on HFNC. This is first study where ROX index has been used in patients on NIV to predict failure.

This clinic-based study reports on the effectiveness of tDCS as an add-on treatment in individuals suffering from TRD.
Materials And Methods: Twenty-six right-handed individuals suffering from major depressive disorder who failed to respond to adequate trials of at least two antidepressant drugs in the current episode received tDCS as an augmenting treatment.
Piezoelectric materials, which exhibit a charge distribution across the surfaces in reaction to mechanical strain, find significant utility in actuation and sensing applications. Apart from actuation applications like acoustic devices, motors, and vibration damping, an emerging domain for ultrasonic actuators lies in additive manufacturing processes. Ultrasonic waves applied during solidification aim to modulate grain structure and minimize defects.

This study aims to evaluate and determine the correlation between in vitro release and in vivo pharmacokinetics of two extended-release dosage forms of Cilostazol. In vitro release profiles for two dosage forms, tablet and capsule, were analyzed under physiologically mimicked medium conditions using the paddle and basket USP release apparatus. A single-dose, two-period crossover study design in beagle dogs was applied for the pharmacokinetic study.

This review critically examines the cost-effectiveness of pharmacological interventions for BPH to optimize patient outcomes and healthcare resource utilization.
Areas Covered: This review explores the integration of cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) into clinical practice, balancing clinical efficacy with economic efficiency in BPH management.
Rare-earth doped materials are of immense interest for their potential applications in linear and nonlinear photonics. There is also intense interest in sub-nanometer gold clusters due to their enhanced stability and unique optical, magnetic, and catalytic properties. To leverage their emergent properties, here we report a systematic study of the geometries, stability, electronic, magnetic, and linear and nonlinear optical properties of Au5RE (RE = Sc, Y, La-Lu) clusters using density-functional theory.

In this observational study, we aimed to evaluate the postoperative outcomes after emergency surgery in COVID-19 patients compared to concurrent age and gender-matched controls. We also sought to analyze the possible predictors of postoperative mortality in COVID-19 patients.

The effects of varied neck positioning intraoperatively on ultrasonographic optic nerve sheath diameter (USG-ONSD) are still unexplored. This study aims to quantify the angle of neck rotation and flexion that can cause a significant increase in USG-ONSD in patients undergoing elective craniotomy.

The environmental stability of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers is of great importance for their applications in electronic, photonic, and energy storage devices. In this study, we focus on understanding the susceptibility of WS, WSe, and WTe monolayers to oxygen exposure in the form of atomic oxygen and O and O molecules, respectively. Calculations based on the van der Waals-corrected density functional theory predicted that O and O molecules are weakly adsorbed on these monolayers, although atomic oxygen prefers chemisorption accompanied by a significant charge transfer from the surface to oxygen.

This study experimentally examined the intricacies of melt pool characteristics and surface topography across diverse laser powers and speeds via single-track laser scanning on a bare plate and powder bed for 316L stainless steel. The results reveal that the presence of a powder layer amplifies melt pool instability and worsens irregularities due to increased laser absorption and the introduction of uneven mass from the powder.

Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome characterized by myocardial dysfunction leading to inefficient blood filling or ejection. Regardless of the etiology, various mechanisms, including adipokine hypersecretion, proinflammatory cytokines, stem cell proliferation, oxidative stress, hyperglycemic toxicity, and autonomic nervous system dysregulation in the pericardial fat (PCF), contribute to the development of HF. PCF has been directly associated with cardiovascular disease, and an increased PCF volume is associated with HF.

There is need of a simple, stepwise sonographic assessment with clearly defined parameters for DL prediction. The primary objective of this study was to find diagnostic accuracy of sonographic parameters measured by a stepwise Airway-USG in DL prediction (DLP).
