Background: A major concern in anticancer treatment (ACT) of brain metastases (BM) is exposing patients with short expected survival to treatments that negatively impact on quality of life (QoL). Such futile ACT at the end of life is time-consuming and burdensome for patients and their families and entails unnecessary healthcare costs. Refraining from ACT is challenging for both physicians and patients.

The Swedish tree pollen season starts in February with alder and hazel pollination, followed by birch and ends with oak in May. Systemic corticosteroids are often prescribed when topical treatments fail, despite limited evidence supporting their efficacy.

Lake Ekoln is located south of Uppsala and is the basin of Lake Mälaren; Lake Mälaren is the third largest lake in Sweden and is the drinking water source for more than two million people. The aim of this study was to simulate the fate and transport of PFAS in Lake Ekoln during the period 2017-2020 using three-dimensional hydrodynamic modelling.

However, Hst5 is susceptible to degradation by secreted aspartyl proteases (Saps) produced by Candida albicans, which could limit its efficacy as a therapeutic. To better understand the role of the lysine residues of Hst5 in proteolysis by C.

Background: Oral screen training has been identified as an effective method for improving orofacial and oropharyngeal motor functions. However, the evidence supporting a positive transfer effect on swallowing capacity post-primary stroke rehabilitation is still unclear.
The objective of this meta-analysis (MA) was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) for the treatment of steroid-refractory chronic graft-versus-host disease (SR-cGvHD). A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines, followed by a feasibility assessment (FA) to assess potential between-study heterogeneity in the meta-analysis (MA). Random-effects MAs were performed for overall survival (OS), failure-free survival (FFS), overall response rate (ORR) and skin-specific response.

Here, we have applied a microfluidic technology, lipid-based protein immobilization (LPI) and liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to characterize the proteome of human milk EVs.

We conducted a pragmatic randomised controlled trial including people with stable COPD within primary healthcare. Participants were randomised to intervention group, IG (access to the COPD Web, an interactive website to support self-management with focus on PA), or to control group, CG (usual care).

The chemical, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and microscopic data demonstrated that the U(VI)-sorbed schwertmannite underwent a rapid reductive dissolution and solid-phase transformation to goethite, during which the surface-sorbed U(VI) was partly reduced and mostly repartitioned to monomeric U(VI)/U(IV) complexes by carboxyl and phosphoryl ligands on biomass or organic substances. Furthermore, the microbial data suggest that these processes were likely driven by the consecutive developments of fermentative and sulfate- and iron- reducing microbial communities.

A reduced life expectancy has been shown in TS, depending on an increased risk of aortic dissection, and ischemic heart disease. Studies covering the occurrence of psychiatric conditions are sparse within TS.

This study examined the effect of reactor type on the performance of an HSD process, comparing plug-flow (PFR) type reactors developed for continuous HSD processes, and completely stirred-tank reactors (CSTRs) commonly used for wet digestion. The HSD process was operated in thermophilic conditions (52 °C), with a mixture of household waste, garden waste and agricultural residues (total solids content 27-28 %).

However, to what extent and how Asc modulates metabolism is largely unknown. We investigated the consequences of chloroplastic and total cellular Asc deficiencies by studying chloroplastic Asc transporter mutant lines lacking PHOSPHATE TRANSPORTER 4; 4 and the Asc-deficient vtc2-4 mutant of Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana).

The reduction of CA-125 levels during neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) co-varies with the prognosis; the larger the decrease in CA-125, the better the prognosis.
Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the potential anti-neoplastic effects of tinzaparin by investigating changes in serum CA-125 levels in advanced EOC patients who receive NACT.
Virus-induced cell death is a key contributor to COVID-19 pathology. Cell death induced by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is well studied in myeloid cells but less in its primary host cell type, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)-expressing human airway epithelia (HAE). SARS-CoV-2 induces apoptosis, necroptosis, and pyroptosis in HAE organotypic cultures.

Background: First pass reperfusion (FPR), defined as near complete reperfusion (extended Treatment in Cerebral Ischemia (eTICI) score 2c/3) in a single attempt without rescue therapy has been proposed as a quality metric. However, it remains unclear if the thrombectomy method influences clinical outcome and FPR rate. This study evaluates whether stent retriever and aspiration based thrombectomy differ in FPR rate, technical and clinical outcomes in FPR, and multiple pass reperfusion (MPR).
