Facial nerve palsy can cause diminished eyelid closure (lagophthalmos). This occurs due to functional deficits of the orbicularis oculi muscle, potentially leading to sight-threatening complications due to corneal exposure. Current management options range from frequent lubrication with eye drops, to the use of moisture chambers and surgery.

Retinal periphlebitis (RPP) is a long-known entity in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and has not been revisited in the context of recent developments in MS pathogenesis and heterogeneity. We present six cases of RPP in three female and three male MS patients. They all have relapsing-remitting MS and did not have or had minor ocular symptoms.

Histology of the biopsy showed a choristoma consisting of abundant vellus hairs, sebaceous glands, and sparse lacrimal gland tissue. Recognition of conjunctival vellus hairs is significant and raises the suspected diagnosis of choristoma, which can be confirmed by a small sample biopsy.

It is important to identify this rare event to prevent recurrent episodes with possible serious complications, such as optic neuropathy.
History And Signs: We present two patients (aged 54 and 83, both male) with recurrent painful globe luxation due to lid incarceration.

Background: To compare the functional and cosmetic outcome of pediculated versus free anterior and posterior lamella reconstruction after large eyelid defects due to malignancy excision.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective study over 2 years with 12 patients matching the criterion of pediculated versus non-pediculated transplants out of a cohort of 124 tumor excisions. The mean age was 76 ± 8 years of the 7 male and 5 female patients.
Background/objectives: Infantile hemangiomas (IHs) involving the conjunctiva are only anecdotally reported in the literature and little is known about their clinical course. In a retrospective case series we aimed to better delineate the clinical presentation, complications, and response to treatment of this uncommon subtype of IH. A classification of conjunctival IH is proposed.

We present the case of a 40-year-old man with left-sided ptosis, exophthalmos and headache. MRI demonstrated left-sided orbital pseudotumor with lacrimal and retro-orbital contrast enhancement extending to the cavernous sinus and the vestibulocochlear nerve.

Objective: To compare systemic treatment-relevant mutational status, metastatic pattern and response to systemic treatment in noncutaneous melanoma.
Methods: Retrospective single-center study analyzing 64 noncutaneous melanoma patients treated between January 2006 and September 2013.
A 31-year-old man was referred with sudden onset of a painful periorbital angio-oedema. Assuming a first episode of allergic or acquired angio-oedema, the patient was treated with a plasma-derived C1 esterase inhibitor, tranexamic acid and fresh-frozen plasma, after the initial treatment with corticosteroids and histamine blockers was unsuccessful. As blood cultures grew group A streptococci, the diagnosis of periorbital necrotising fasciitis was made, and treatment was subsequently changed to clindamycin and ceftriaxone.

Cardiovascular implants must resist infection and thrombosis. A nanocomposite polymeric material [polyhedral-oligomeric-silsesquioxane-poly(carbonate-urea)urethane; POSS-PCU] demonstrates ideal properties for cardiovascular applications. Silver nanoparticles or nanosilver (NS) are recognized for efficient antibacterial properties.

Lacrimal surgery in cases of severely obstructed or missing canalicular ducts is highly challenging. In these cases, the placement of a bypass tube is currently the only option to restore the drainage of tears into the nose and reduce the symptomatic watery eye. Different approaches to achieve functional drainage have been tried using blood vessels or artificial implants.

Nanosilver (NS), comprising silver nanoparticles, is attracting interest for a range of biomedical applications owing to its potent antibacterial activity. It has recently been demonstrated that NS has useful anti-inflammatory effects and improves wound healing, which could be exploited in developing better dressings for wounds and burns. The key to its broad-acting and potent antibacterial activity is the multifaceted mechanism by which NS acts on microbes.

Background: Surgical treatment of myopic strabismus fixus is challenging. Options for its correction range from conventional combined recession-resection surgery to innovative surgical procedures aiming to correct the deviated muscle paths. In this report we review our experience and compare the results of various surgical options for treatment of strabismus fixus.
