(1) Background: Collagen, a natural polymer, is widely used in the fabrication of membranes for guided bone regeneration (GBR). These membranes are sourced from various tissues, such as skin, pericardium, peritoneum, and tendons, which exhibit differences in regenerative outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the morphological and chemical properties of porcine collagen membranes from five different tissue sources: skin, pericardium, dermis, tendons, and peritoneum.

Article Synopsis
  • - Osseointegration is the process where a biocompatible dental implant bonds with living bone tissue, essential for the implant's success under masticatory loads.
  • - A study using advanced microscopy techniques analyzed a dental implant's surface and its chemical composition after 5 years, revealing titanium and carbon on the implant and phosphorus, calcium, and oxygen around the bone interface.
  • - The findings showed a rough implant surface supporting orderly calcified bone tissue growth, indicating that dental implants can facilitate effective bone remodeling and maintain long-term biocompatibility for healthy peri-implant tissue.

Cellular behavior in nerve regeneration is affected by the architecture of the polymeric nerve guide conduits (NGCs); therefore, design features of polymeric NGCs are critical for neural tissue engineering. Hence, the purpose of this scoping review is to summarize the adequate quantitative/morphometric parameters of the characteristics of NGC that provide a supportive environment for nerve regeneration, enhancing the understanding of a previous study. 394 studies were found, of which 29 studies were selected.

Unlabelled: The "nerve guide conduits" (NGC) used in nerve regeneration must mimic the natural environment for proper cell behavior.

Objective: To describe the main morphological characteristics of polymeric NGC to promote nerve regeneration.

Methods: A scoping review was performed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) criteria in the PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct, and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases.
