To determine and compare the measurement uncertainty of different geological-geotechnical testing methods, numerous test locations were selected in a hard rock quarry. Measurements were carried out along two vertical measurement lines perpendicular to the mining levels of an existing exploration. Along these lines, the rock quality basically varies due to weathering (decreasing influence with increasing distance from the original ground surface), but also due to the influence of the geological-tectonic conditions on site.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on dating clay bricks and plasters in vernacular architecture, particularly in the Pannonian region, where clay mixed with straw is commonly used.
  • Preliminary findings indicate that different plant parts in the clay mix show distinct spectral differences through infrared spectroscopy, leading to the creation of an initial age prediction model based on 14 historic samples.
  • The model achieved a 62.2% accuracy rate with a root mean squared error of 93 years, suggesting the need for a larger sample size and further development of separate models for various plant components.

Biochar (BC) is increasingly tested as a soil amendment for immobilization of heavy metals (HMs) and other pollutants. In our study, an acidic soil amended with wood chip-derived BC showed strongly enhanced Cu and Cd sorption after 15 months of aging under greenhouse conditions. X-ray absorption near edge structure suggested formation of Cu(OH) and CuCO and upon aging increasingly Cu sorption to the BC organic phase (from 9.

In forest soils on calcareous parent material, carbonate is a key component that influences both chemical and physical soil properties and thus fertility and productivity. At low organic carbon contents, it is difficult to distinguish between organic and inorganic carbon, e.g.
