Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in pediatric patients with pacemakers (PM) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), comparing their quality of life with that of age- and sex-matched healthy controls.
  • Results show that these patients report significantly lower HRQoL, particularly in terms of physical and psychosocial health, and factors like cardiac medication can predict lower overall HRQoL.
  • The findings highlight that younger patients, those with ICDs, and those with structural congenital heart disease may be at greater risk for low quality of life, suggesting the need for timely clinical evaluation and support for these groups.

Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is an important strategy of quality improvement for every hospital. Leadership is an important factor for implementation of quality improvement and AMS programs. Recent publications show successful AMS programs in children's hospitals, but successful implementation is often difficult to achieve and literature of AMS in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units (NICU/PICU) is scarce.

Gelatinase A, also denoted matrix metalloproteinase 2, plays multiple critical roles in the neoplastic process, including facilitation of neoangiogenesis and formation of distal metastases. The transcriptional regulation of the gelatinase A gene is under the control of strong, evolutionarily conserved cis-acting enhancer elements, designated the r2 (human) or RE-1 (rat), that harbor contiguous binding motifs for the transcription factors activating protein-2 (AP2), p53, and YB-1. Using recombinant transcription factors, complex patterns of RE-1 binding were observed by electrophoretic mobility shift assay.
