Influence of nervous tendencies on oral health status and lifestyle habits.

Objective: It is presumed that people with nervous tendencies brush their teeth for long durations, and, we aimed to investigate how nervous tendencies affect oral health status and lifestyle habits.

Subjects And Methods: Three hundred and sixty patients who visited the Senri Dental Clinic, affiliated with the Sunstar Foundation, and were being treated for periodontal diseases between 11 January 2017 and 10 April 2017 were enrolled. A total of 323 respondents (101 men and 222 women) were considered eligible.

Evaluation of protein production in rice seedlings under dark conditions.

Although plants have several advantages for foreign protein production, cultivation of transgenic plants in artificial plant growth facilities involves the use of a great amount of electricity for lightning and air conditioning, reducing cost-effectiveness. Protein production in plants grown in darkness can overcome this problem, but the amount of protein produced in the dark is unknown. In this study, the total amount of soluble protein produced in rice seedlings germinated and grown in light or darkness were examined at several time points after germination and under different temperature, nutritional, and seedling density conditions.

Topological data analysis to model the shape of immune responses during co-infections.

Co-infections by multiple pathogens have important implications in many aspects of health, epidemiology and evolution. However, how to disentangle the non-linear dynamics of the immune response when two infections take place at the same time is largely unexplored. Using data sets of the immune response during influenza-pneumococcal co-infection in mice, we employ here topological data analysis to simplify and visualise high dimensional data sets.

Salvage of fetal karyotype information from SNP array data obtained from products of conception with maternal cell contamination.

Objective: Maternal cell contamination (MCC) is known to increase the risk of misdiagnosis in prenatal diagnosis as well as in diagnostic tests for the products of conception (POC) from miscarriages. We aimed to develop a data correction method to salvage fetal karyotype information from single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array data for POC with MCC when parental genotype data are available.

Methods: We obtained SNP array data from mixed genomic DNAs of a mother-child pair and used the dataset to assess the accuracy of data correction.
