Introduction: To understand, diagnose and treat patients with musculoskeletal disorders, psychological risk factors should be assessed, and the association between psychological risk for disability and appropriateness of orthopedic surgery should be investigated.

Purpose: To investigate the association between screened psychological risk for disability and appropriateness of orthopedic surgery, and to examine a physiotherapist's ability to assess risk for disability in patients referred for orthopedic consultation.

Method: Patients ( = 192) were assessed by a physiotherapist or an orthopedic surgeon to determine the need for surgery.

Process evaluation of a randomised controlled trial - prevention of sickness absence through early identification and rehabilitation of at-risk patients with musculoskeletal disorders (PREVSAM).

Background: Musculoskeletal disorders are commonly treated in primary healthcare and may, if not treated adequately, entail a risk for long-term disability and sickness absence. A team-based rehabilitation intervention (PREVention of Sickness Absence for Musculoskeletal disorders, PREVSAM) was evaluated in a randomised controlled trial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the process of implementing the PREVSAM model in primary care rehabilitation.

Background: Physical therapy-led orthopedic triage is a care model used to optimize pathways for patients with hip or knee osteoarthritis. However, scientific evidence of the effectiveness of this model of care is still limited and only a few studies report patients' perception of it. The aim of this study was to compare patients' perceived quality of care after physical therapy-led triage with standard practice in a secondary care setting for patients with primary hip or knee osteoarthritis.

Digital physiotherapy assessment vs conventional face-to-face physiotherapy assessment of patients with musculoskeletal disorders: A systematic review.

Background: This systematic review aimed to assess the certainty of evidence for digital versus conventional, face-to-face physiotherapy assessment of musculoskeletal disorders, concerning validity, reliability, feasibility, patient satisfaction, physiotherapist satisfaction, adverse events, clinical management, and cost-effectiveness.

Methods: Eligibility criteria: Original studies comparing digital physiotherapy assessment with face-to-face physiotherapy assessment of musculoskeletal disorders. Systematic database searches were performed in May 2021, and updated in May 2022, in Medline, Cochrane Library, Cinahl, AMED, and PEDro.

"Take me seriously and do something!" - a qualitative study exploring patients' perceptions and expectations of an upcoming orthopaedic consultation.

Background: Patients' perceptions of care is an important factor in evaluation of health care, in quality assessment, and in improvement efforts. Expectations of assessments or procedures such as surgery have been found to be related to perceptions of outcome as well as satisfaction, and are therefore of interest to both clinicians and researchers. Increased understanding of these patient views is important so that orthopaedic assessments, regardless of who performs them, can be further developed and patient-centred to better meet patients' needs.

Aim: To report a long-term evaluation of patient-reported health-related quality of life, pain-related disability, and sick leave after a physiotherapy triage assessment of patients referred for orthopaedic consultation compared with standard practice.

Methods: Patients referred for orthopaedic consultation (n = 208) were randomised to physiotherapy triage assessment or standard practice.

Physiotherapy screening of patients referred for orthopaedic consultation in primary healthcare - a randomised controlled trial.

A large proportion of patients who consult primary healthcare for musculoskeletal pain are referred for orthopaedic consultation, but only a small number of these patients are appropriate for orthopaedic intervention. Experienced physiotherapists have the appropriate knowledge to manage musculoskeletal disorders. The primary aim of this randomised study was therefore to evaluate a screening by a physiotherapist of patients referred for orthopaedic consultation compared to standard practice in primary care.

The influence of Mulligan ankle taping during balance performance in subjects with unilateral chronic ankle instability.

Objective: To determine whether Mulligan ankle tape influenced the performance in subjects with unilateral chronic ankle instability (CAI) during static balance; postural sway recovery patterns after hopping and dynamic tracking balance tasks.

Design: A cross-sectional, within-subjects experimental study design between 4 ankle conditions (taped; untaped: injured and uninjured).

Participants: 20 volunteer recreational athletes with unilateral CAI were recruited.
