The 5C's of Radiology Education is a tool created from a recent qualitative study designed to explore how radiology exposures impact medical student opinions and perceptions of radiology and radiologists. Purpose: This article is a continuation of a qualitative study designed to explore how radiology exposures can impact medical student opinions and perceptions of radiology and radiologists. We focused on: 1) conducting a radiology exposure inventory from the perspective of the medical student; 2) student evaluation of the quality of the radiology exposures and suggestions for positive change; and 3) development of a framework to address the needs of medical students as it relates to radiology education in the undergraduate medical curriculum.

Health literacy represents the cognitive and social skills that determine the motivation and ability of individuals to gain access to, understand, and use information in ways that promote and maintain good health.(1) According to the 2003 International Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey (IALSS), over 12 million (60%) adult Canadians lack the capacity to obtain, understand, and act on health information and services, as well as make appropriate health decisions on their own.(2,3) Of these 12 million Canadians, the elderly are the most health illiterate age group in Canada.

Purpose: According to a national survey of over 900 Canadian medical students, the stereotype of an isolated radiologist working in a dark room persists. The purpose of this study is to use qualitative methods to explore the ways exposure to radiology in medical school impacts students' opinions and perceptions of radiology and radiologists.

Objective: To evaluate the literacy level of patients with glaucoma in a tertiary care teaching centre compared with a rural community centre and to assess comprehension of and preference for educational material written at different reading levels.

Design: Prospective, randomized, double-blinded study.

Participants: Patients with glaucoma presenting for routine examination or referral at a tertiary care academic centre in southwestern Ontario and a single general ophthalmology clinic located in a moderately sized suburban community in Ontario, Canada, were invited to participate in this study.

Transit time flow volume has been used in cardiac surgery to assess small vessel flow characteristics. This study examines the usefulness of transit time flow volume (TTFV) in assessing perforator vessels in deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap harvesting.
