What influences on their professional development do general practice trainees report from their hospital placements? A qualitative study.

Background: The clinical learning environment is important in GP specialty training and impacts professional development. Uniquely for GP trainees, about half of their training periods occur in a hospital environment, which is not their final workplace. There is still little understanding of how hospital-based training influences GP's professional development.

Trainees' perceptions of course quality in postgraduate General Practice training in Ireland.

Background: Postgraduate General Practice (GP) training is structured around a formal curriculum set out by the training body. It also includes a "hidden curriculum" of experiential workplace learning in a heterogenous learning environment [1]. There is no formal national annual survey of GP trainees and their views in Ireland.

Exploring the Irish general practice training community's perceptions on how an entrustable professional activities dashboard implementation could facilitate general practice training in Ireland.

Background: The Irish General Practitioner Training (GP) Programme is currently moving to Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME), facilitated by Programmatic Assessment (PA) and Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs). These new assessment and feedback mechanisms may provide a rich and much sought-after dataset. However, given the possible number of feedback and assessment events, and the variety of modalities used, aggregating and interpreting these can be costly and difficult.

Myths and legends in workplace-based assessment; it's all about perspective?

Based on internationally published literature and the experience of the project team, we understood that already established beliefs and perceptions could influence the implementation of new workplace-based assessment (WBA) tools and processes. At the start of a project to design new WBA tools, we, therefore, attempted to understand the perspectives and perceptions of our GP training community and inform the communication strategy for the project. Online and paper surveys were disseminated to GP trainers, trainees and programme directors.

Teaching multimorbidity management to GP trainees: a pilot workshop.

Multimorbidity, the presence of more than one chronic condition simultaneously, has a significant impact on people who experience it and on the healthcare system. General Practitioners (GPs) are ideally situated to provide the complex care required for someone whose health needs to cross the boundaries of individual specialties. It has been suggested that medical and postgraduate general practice education needs to adapt to address the new challenges of multimorbidity.

Prescribing errors in general practice: a prospective study.

Prescribing is one of the commonest tasks in daily general practice. Surprisingly there is little published research on errors that occur in this area. The aim of this study was to estimate the seriousness and level of prescribing errors that occurred in general practice.
