The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a 10-week blended family-based childhood obesity management program, relative to a wait-list control, in improving child body mass index (BMI) z-scores, child lifestyle behaviors, parental support for healthy eating and physical activity, and self-regulation for healthy eating and physical activity support. This study was registered as a randomized wait-listed controlled trial; however, due to low recruitment and program delivery logistics, this study transitioned into a quasi-experimental design. Families with children 8-12 years of age with a BMI ≥85th percentile for age and sex were recruited (October 2018 to March 2019) in British Columbia, Canada.

This article describes how evidence is defined and used in two British Columbia public health departments during the implementation of a Healthy Living initiative in 2009. Through interviews with 21 public health staff and decision makers, the author sought to investigate how "evidence" was defined by both frontline and management staff and how it was used in decision making. The authors found public health staff, particularly frontline practitioners, to be drawn to grassroots and local "lived experience" evidence.

Objective: To identify possible hormonal factors involved in the differential responses to chemotherapy observed in our tumor model, we investigated if the timing among tumor cell injection, rehousing, and chemotherapy administration differentially affects levels of corticosterone (CORT), growth hormone (GH), and testosterone and tumor and host responses to chemotherapy.

Insulin-like growth factors I and II (IGF-I and IGF-II) are growth factors implicated in both normal mammary gland development and breast cancer. We have previously reported on the effects of components of the IGF system on breast epithelial cells. Since data suggests that stromal-epithelial interactions play a crucial role in breast cancer, we have now investigated the mitogenic properties of IGF-I, IGF-II, insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) on human breast stromal cells in primary culture.

To investigate the relation between necrosis and hypoxia in breast cancer we examined the expression of hypoxia-associated markers HIF1, CA IX and GLUT1 by immunohistochemistry in 97 invasive ductal carcinomas. This selected series comprised 48 tumors with extensive necrosis and 49 control tumors without necrosis. Over 90% of necrotic and 30% of non-necrotic tumors expressed at least one hypoxia marker.
