Introduction Glanzmann's thrombasthenia (GT) is an autosomal recessive disorder of platelets caused by a deficiency in the glycoprotein IIb-IIIa. Bleeding from the skin, mucous membranes, and ecchymosis are symptoms manifested starting in early childhood. There may also be major bleeding conditions as a result of surgical procedures or trauma.

A critical review of the applicability of serological screening for Leishmaniasis in blood banks in Brazil.

Leishmaniasis is a group of diseases caused by several species of protozoa. It is a major public health concern in its visceral form, accounting annually for 59,000 deaths, and an estimated 12 million infected patients per year. The importance of VL resides not only in its high incidence and wide distribution but also in the possibility of the disease progressing to the severe and lethal forms, especially in children and immunosuppressed individuals, when associated with malnutrition and concomitant infections.

Comparative effectiveness of photobiomodulation and manual therapy alone or combined in TMD patients: a randomized clinical trial.

The effectiveness of photobiomodulation (PBM) and manual therapy (MT), alone or combined (CT), were evaluated in pain intensity, mandibular movements, psychosocial aspects, and anxiety symptoms of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) patients. Fifty-one TMD patients were randomly assigned to three groups: the PBM group (n = 18), which received PBM with 808 nm, 100 mW, 13.3 J/cm2, and 4 J per point; the MT group (n=16) for 21 minutes each session on masticatory muscles and temporomandibular joint TMJ; and the CT group (n = 17), applied during twelve sessions.

Influence of the patient's clinical information on the diagnostic reproducibility and accuracy of MRI scans of temporomandibular joint pathologies.

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of the patient's clinical information on the accuracy as well as interexaminer and intraexaminer reproducibilities of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.

Materials And Methods: Forty MRI scans from 20 TMJs corresponding to 7 TMJ pathologies (ie, degenerative alterations of the condyle, degenerative alterations of the mandibular fossa, alterations in the morphology of the TMJ disc, disc displacement with reduction, disc displacement without reduction, TMJ effusion, and TMJ hypermobility) were assessed by seven uncalibrated specialists in temporomandibular disorders (TMD) at baseline, 30 day-, and 60-day follow-ups for accuracy and reproducibility. No clinical information was provided before the 60-day follow up.

Our study aimed to produce reliable estimates of health care quality among Native Hawaiian (NH), Other Pacific Islander (PI), and Asian American (AA) subgroups.

Vestibular schwannoma (acoustic neuroma) mimicking temporomandibular disorders: a case report.

Approximately 6 to 16% of patients with trigeminal neuralgia symptoms present intracranial tumors, the most common being the vestibular schwannoma (acoustic neuroma). Some symptoms reported by patients include hearing loss, tinnitus, headaches, vertigo and trigeminal disturbances. An increased muscle response in the surrounding head and neck musculature may also be observed, which mimics signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders.

The purpose of this study was to assess the tissue alterations in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of the New Zealand White rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus L.), after a unilateral occlusal interference insertion on the animal's right side back teeth. A total of 36 animals were used, thirty of which belonged to the experimental group and six to the control group.
