Study Objective: Malodor is a multifactorial condition with oral pathology representing the main culprit and the tongue being the first to second contributor to the malodor. Bacterial load can represent a quantifiable measure regardless of the original pathology. We hypothesize that reduction in malodor can be represented by tongue changes both in appearance, bacterial and biofilm load reduction (measured by CFU and volatile gases measurement), organoleptic measurement and subjective improvement.

Bivalve aquaculture farms are an integral part of the surrounding coastal marine ecosystem and associated food webs. What is not well understood is how these anthropogenically manipulated, dense, single-species cultures influence species trophodynamics in the coastal ocean. Fouling macrofauna biodiversity, macroalgae biomass, sediment, and food web structure were studied at two blue mussel (Mytilus edulis) floating raft rope-culture aquaculture farm structures and two analogous floating dock structures without mussels in Casco Bay, Maine, USA during the summers of 2016 and 2017.

River floodplains have the potential to remove nitrate from water through denitrification, the anaerobic microbial conversion of nitrate to nitrogen gas. An important factor in this process is the interaction of river water with floodplain soil; however, many rivers have been disconnected from their historic floodplains by levees. To test the effect of reflooding a degraded floodplain on nitrate removal, we studied changes in soil denitrification rates on the Baraboo River floodplain in Wisconsin, USA, as it underwent restoration.

A proteomics approach has been used to study changes in protein abundance during leaf senescence in white clover. Changes in cell ultrastructure were also examined using transmission electron microscopy. The most obvious ultrastructural changes during senescence occurred in chloroplasts, with progressive loss of thylakoid integrity and accumulation of osmiophilic globules in the stroma.
