Exploring South Asian Women's Experiences of Domestic Violence and Help-Seeking Within the Sociocultural Context in Hong Kong.

Data are reported from a survey of 49 South Asian women who self-identified as having experienced domestic violence from an intimate partner within the past 12 months. Logistic regression analysis reveals that perceived social support and having children emerged as the strongest predictors for seeking help. This study also demonstrates that women's approach to help-seeking is shaped and embedded by a combination of individual and structural factors.

Significant advancements in treatment modalities over the past few decades have significantly improved the survival rates of many types of childhood cancer, directing attention to the psychosocial consequences of successful treatment and subsequent survival. Assessing psychological distress in cancer patients: The use of distress thermometer in an outpatient cancer/hematology treatment center.

The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of the distress thermometer (DT) and the accompanying problem checklist (PC) as a screening tool for psychological distress and the sources of those distress at an outpatient cancer treatment center in Central California. Forty-three patients completed the DT and the PC. Based on a recommended DT cutoff score of 4, patients were classified as "distressed" (>4) and "not-distressed" (<4).

Acculturation, perceived discrimination, and psychological distress: Experiences of South Asians in Hong Kong.

Although migration itself may not compromise the mental health of immigrants, the acculturative process can involve highly stressful factors that are specific to immigrant and minority status. Using structural equation modeling, this study examined the relations between acculturation orientations, perceived discrimination, acculturative stress, and psychological distress among 229 Pakistani and 218 Nepalese migrants living in Hong Kong. Although the initial hypothesized model was not confirmed, a modified model with good fit indices showed that acculturation orientation mediated the relationships of perceived discrimination and acculturative stress with psychological distress.
