Objective: To introduce the Penile Trauma Score (PTS), a new statistically driven classification system aimed at enhancing the management of penile trauma by providing clinically relevant treatment protocols.

Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of 34 men with penetrating penile injuries at the Elvis Presley Level 1 Trauma Center, Memphis, from January 2014 to December 2016. Variables assessed included injury mechanism, location, depth, and follow-up outcomes related to voiding and erectile function.

Objectives: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) are disproportionately affected by HIV. This study reports data on HIV testing program outcomes among MSM tested for HIV in non-healthcare settings in the United States.

Methods: We analyzed Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National HIV Prevention Program Monitoring and Evaluation data collected in 2019.

Identifying persons with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection who are unaware of their status and linking them to care are critical steps in achieving viral suppression and reducing the risk for transmitting HIV (1). In 2017, 43% of new diagnoses of HIV infection were among persons who self-identify as blacks or African Americans (blacks) (2), who represent 13% of the U.S.

Background: Care and viral suppression national goals for HIV infection are not being met for many at-risk groups. Assessment of the trends in national outcomes for linkage to care, receipt of care, and viral suppression among these groups is necessary to reduce transmission.

Methods: Data reported to the National HIV Surveillance System by December 2016 were used to identify cases of HIV infection among persons aged 13 years and older in one of 17 identified jurisdictions with complete laboratory reporting.

Article Synopsis
  • * From December 2016 to June 2017, there were 14,518 suspected cases, with laboratory tests confirming 433 positive cases, primarily caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C.
  • * In response to the outbreak, approximately 2.1 million individuals aged 2-29 were vaccinated, and the outbreak was declared over on June 15, 2017, highlighting the importance of ongoing surveillance and lab testing for future outbreaks.

Objectives: Assess outcomes along the care continuum for HIV-infected people who inject drugs (PWID), by type of facility and stage of infection at diagnosis.

Methods: Data reported by 28 jurisdictions to the National HIV Surveillance System by December 2014 were used to identify PWID aged ≥13 years, diagnosed with HIV infection before December 31, 2013. Analyses used the CDC definition of linkage to care (LTC), retention in care (RIC), and viral suppression (VS), and are stratified by age, sex, race/ethnicity, and type of facility and stage of HIV infection at diagnosis.

The use of physical therapy in German children and adolescents has so far solely been analyzed on the basis of health insurance data, which can neither consider case history nor social factors. Using the KiGGS-baseline survey it is possible to examine the use of physical therapy on the basis of parental reported health problems and social factors. Identifiable determinants for the use of physical therapy in the last 12 months in the KiGGS-baseline survey were examined bivariate and multivariate in logistic regression models with mutual adjustment.

Background: A population-based analysis on use of occupational therapy by child's parentally reported health restrictions and socio-demographic determinants is missing.

Patients And Methods: The basis KiGGS survey (2003 to 2006) reports on health in 17 641 children aged 0 to 17 years. The use of occupational therapy in the last 12 months could be ticked as other therapies with a free text field to name occupational therapy or others.

Objective: The comparative mortality figure (CMF) is the expected number of deaths in the standard population compared with those observed. We assessed state-based CMFs for people with HIV infection to allow standardized assessment of mortality in all states.

Methods: We used National HIV Surveillance System data to compute CMFs for people diagnosed with HIV and AIDS from 2001 to 2010 who met the CDC HIV case definition; were alive on December 31, 2009; and died during 2010.

Objective: Compare age-adjusted rates of death due to liver, kidney, and heart diseases during 2009-2011 among US residents diagnosed with HIV infection with those in the general population.

Methods: Numerators were numbers of records of multiple-cause mortality data from the national vital statistics system with an ICD-10 code for the disease of interest (any mention, not necessarily the underlying cause), divided into those 1) with and 2) without an additional code for HIV infection. Denominators were 1) estimates of persons living with diagnosed HIV infection from national HIV surveillance system data and 2) general population estimates from the US Census Bureau.

Aim: To evaluate a kinematic paradigm of automatic general movements analysis in comparison to clinical assessment in 3-month-old infants and its prediction for neurodevelopmental outcome.

Method: Preterm infants at high risk (n=49; 26 males, 23 females) and term infants at low risk (n=18; eight males, 10 females) of developmental impairment were recruited from hospitals around Heidelberg, Germany. Kinematic analysis of general movements by magnet tracking and clinical video-based assessment of general movements were performed at 3 months of age.

Context: In 2009, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention completed migration of all 59 surveillance project areas (PAs) from the case-based HIV/AIDS Reporting System to the document-based Enhanced HIV/AIDS Reporting System.

Objectives: We conducted a PA-level assessment of Enhanced HIV/AIDS Reporting System process and outcome standards for HIV infection cases.

Design: Process standards were reported by PAs and outcome standards were calculated using standardized Centers for Disease Control and Prevention SAS code.

Background: Cognitive therapies are intended to improve basic cognitive functions, whatever the cause of the deficiency may be. Children and adolescents with various cognitive deficits are treated with behavioral therapeutic and computer-supported training programs. We here report the first meta-analysis of the efficacy of such programs.

Objective: Evaluation of spontaneous infant movements is an important tool for the detection of neurological impairments. One important aspect of this evaluation is the observation of movements which exhibit certain complex properties. This article presents a method to automatically extract segments which contain such complex patterns in order to quantitatively assess them.
