The long-term in vivo cytogenetic effects of high-dose radiation exposure can be traced in accidentally irradiated persons, and particularly useful for developing strategies of monitoring and therapy of such patients, as well as for elucidating the fundamental aspects of hematopoiesis and radiobiology. Using 24-color fluorescent in situ hybridization (mFISH), we analysed the frequency and the spectrum of chromosomal aberrations (CA) in peripheral blood lymphocytes of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) accident victim 30, 31, 32 and 33 years after acute accidental exposure to high-dose gamma radiation of the whole body. Totally, 993 metaphase cells were analyzed (or 219, 272, 258, 244 cells each year), of which 297 were aberrant.

Clonal chromosomal and genomic instability during human multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells long-term culture.

Background Aims: Spontaneous mutagenesis often leads to appearance of genetic changes in cells. Although human multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSC) are considered as genetically stable, there is a risk of genomic and structural chromosome instability and, therefore, side effects of cell therapy associated with long-term effects. In this study, the karyotype, genetic variability and clone formation analyses have been carried out in the long-term culture MSC from human gingival mucosa.

Atlantic salmon papillomatosis in Russia and molecular characterization of the associated herpesvirus.

Papillomatosis of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar has been reported for decades in Russia, Scandinavia and Scotland. The disease is typically benign although heavy losses have occasionally been reported. A herpesviral etiology has been suggested based on ultrastructural evidence; however, the virus has not been isolated or genetically characterized.

Novel fibrinogen receptor antagonists--RGDF mimetics, 4-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-isoquinoline-7-yl)amino-4-oxo-butyric acid derivatives.

Two novel RGDF mimetics were synthesized with the use of 4-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-isoquinoline-7-yl)amino-4-oxo-butyric acid as a new surrogate of Arg-Gly motif. Peptidomimetics - antagonists of the fibrinogen receptors: molecular design, structures, properties and therapeutic applications.

The platelet aggregation is a crucial step in a pathophisiology of thromboses, leading to development of cardio-vascular diseases (myocardial infarction, transient ischemic attacks, strokes, etc.). The final step in the aggregation is the binding of fibrinogen to receptor - glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GP IIb/IIIa) on the surface of activated platelets.

Synthesis and antiaggregatory activity of RGD-peptidomimetics based on 4-oxo-4-(piperazine-1-yl)butyric acid as Arg-mimetic.

A scheme of synthesis of previously obtained RGDF-peptidomimetic-4-oxo-4-(piperazine-1-yl)butyrylglycyl-D,L-beta-phenyl-beta-alanine (I), was simplified. The novel RGDF-peptidomimetic -4-oxo-4-piperazine-1-yl)butyryl-glycyl-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine (II) was synthesized with the use of 4-oxo-4-(piperazine-1-yl)butyric acid as arginyl mimetic. The obtained pseudopeptides were able to inhibit both platelet aggregation in human blood and binding of fibrinogen to its receptor.

Synthesis and properties of peptidomimetics--inhibitors of platelet aggregation.

The literature data on effective approaches to the development of the novel peptidomimetics, antagonists of fibrinogen GP IIb/IIIa receptors as potential antithrombotic agents are generalized and systematized in the review. The data obtained by the authors on the synthesis and properties of novel peptidomimetics are reported.

[In vitro effect of 1,2-dihydro-3H-1,4-benzodiazepine-2-one derivatives on the platelet aggregation and lipid peroxidation in rats].

There were discovered the anti-aggregative properties of some psychotropic drugs as gidazepam, phenazepam and its derivatives 3-oxyphenazepam, esters of 3-oxyphenazepam, with IC50 values of 8.19-11 x 10(-4) M. On their anti-aggregative effects they exceed of the acetylsalicylic acid (IC50 = 21.

[Various aspects of price formation in public health].

The main problems involved in estimating the cost of medical service are discussed. Up to the present time, there was no universal approaches to price formation in practical public health. Economists and public health organizers are not trained to cope with this task.

[Transport of 2,5-dimethoxy-4-methylamphetamine by macroheterocycles across erythrocyte membranes].

Transport of 2,5-dimethoxy-4-methylamphetamine across human erythrocytes by the 18-crown-6, monoaza-15-crown-5 and diaza-18-crown-6 is studied and evaluated spectrophotometrically. It is shown that crown-ethers at low concentration (1-2 mM) protect erythrocytes against their natural homolysis. 2,5-dimethoxy-4-methylamphetamine provides 2-5% hemolysis of erythrocytes.

[Hematologic indices in participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station 3 years following their work in Chernobyl].

Blood analysis with the use of automated analyzer H-1 (Technicon), carried out in 31 subjects who were engaged in liquidation of the power plant accident aftereffects 3 years following their work at the station, has revealed elevated red cell counts, elevated counts of peripheral blood large nondifferentiated cells, dose-dependent increase of neutrophil count, reduced counts of lymphocytes and basophils, enlarged nuclear size in mononuclears and reduced optic density of these cells.

[The fenazepam demand by rats depending on the degree of alcoholic motivation].

Phenazepam stimulates the drinking behaviour of rats. Under free-choice conditions ethanol-preferring rats drank significantly greater amount of phenazepam solution than those not preferring ethanol. Intraperitoneal administration of phenazepam and ethanol eliminated differences between the animals of the two groups in consumption of each substance but had no cross effect.

[Gamma-aminobutyric acid metabolism in the rat brain after administration of nootropic agents].

N,N-bis-pyrrolidonomethyl-diaza - 18-crown-6 and piracetam, which are structural analogues of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and exhibit nootropic properties, affected the GABA metabolism, the content of total protein, DNA and RNA in rat brain after long-term administration at pharmacologically active doses of 100 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg, respectively. As compared with control values, content of GABA in rat brain was increased by 40% after administration of N,N-bis-pyrrolodonomethyl-diaza-18-crown-6 and by 28%--after treatment with piracetam. At the same time, activity of GABA transaminase was decreased by 49.

[Characteristics of the psychotropic effects of N-crown ether derivatives].

Acyl derivatives of crown esters containing amino acid derivatives as substitutes were studied. Derivatives of N-acylazacrown esters were found in experiments to display a broad spectrum of anticonvulsant activity, antiaggressive and tranquillizing effects and not to produce any sedative and myorelaxant actions. The profile of psychotropic activity of N-crown esters derivatives seems to be similar to that of atypic tranquillizers but the latters are less toxic.

[Rehabilitative therapy after removal of parasagittal meningiomas].

A complex of restorative treatment measures applied for promoting the process of motor function restoration in patients who underwent removal of parasagittal meningiomas includes drug therapy, physiotherapy, and therapeutic exercises. The lapse of time after the operation and the specific features of the motor defect must be taken into account. The suggested complex was used in 87 patients.

[Disorders of motor functions after removal of parasagittal meningiomas].

Specific features of motor activity disorders were studied in 87 patients before and after removal of a parasagittal meningioma. Motor disorders are most severe in localization of the tumor in the region of the middle third of the superior sagittal sinus and falx and less severe when the tumor is found in the posterior parts of the anterior third of the superior sagittal sinus. The disorders are more marked after operation with extensive resection of areas of the superior sagittal sinus involves in the tumor and with occlusion of the formed venous drainage passages.
