Examining tools for assessing the impact of chronic pain on emotional functioning in children and young people with cerebral palsy: stakeholder preference and recommendations for modification.

Purpose: To firstly identify tools for assessing the impact of chronic pain on emotional functioning in children and young people with cerebral palsy (CP), and secondly identify suggestions to improve their relevance, comprehensiveness, comprehensibility and feasibility for the CP population. Improving assessment of the impact of pain on emotional functioning can enhance quality of life by improving access to interventions for pain-related physical disability, anxiety and depression.

Methods: Ethics approval was granted through the Women's and Children's Health Network Human Research Ethics Committee (2022/HRE00154).

Continuous veno-venous haemodialysis with a novel bicarbonate dialysis solution: prospective cross-over comparison with a lactate buffered solution.

Objective: To compare acid-base balance, lactate concentration and haemodynamic parameters during continuous veno-venous haemodialysis (CVVHD) using bicarbonate or a lactate buffered dialysate.

Design: prospective randomized cross-over design;

Setting: Multicentre combined adult surgical and medical intensive care units. Patients; 26 critically ill patients starting CVVHD for acute renal failure.

Hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis caused by surreptitious vomiting: report of four cases.

Four women, aged 22 to 40 years, presented with severe hypokalemia and metabolic alkalosis. Three had related neuromuscular symptoms. All four patients denied vomiting or diuretic ingestion, and a diagnosis of Bartter's syndrome was entertained.

Home peritoneal dialysis: 3 years' experience in Toronto.

From November 1972 to November 1975, 52 males and 39 females aged 11 to 71 years were trained for home peritoneal dialysis. Dialysis was performed through a permanent catheter 4 nights a week. The first 11 patients used the manual system, exchanging 2 / of dialysate solution every 50 to 60 minutes.
