Background: Bleeding and thrombotic occlusion are complications of Central venous catheters. When selecting a catheter lock solution, factors such as bleeding, thrombotic occlusion, infection, and cost-effectiveness must be considered.
Methods: The study included 35 patients who used heparin as a locking solution and 35 patients who used 0.
The most common cause of rhabdomyolysis is trauma. In the presence of rhabdomyolysis attacks triggered by heavy exercise and fever, hereditary causes should be investigated. In our study, a case was presented that developed rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury due to carnitine palmitoyltransferase 2 (CPT2) deficiency and then required hemodialysis treatment.

Methods: Participants were UK Biobank cohort members who reported on their meaning in life in the mental health assessment from October 2016 to July 2017 (NÂ =Â 153,505). All-cause mortality and cause-specific mortality were identified from ICD-10 codes from national death registries through December 2022.

Relationship satisfaction is associated consistently with better physical and mental health. Less is known about these associations in daily life, particularly the association between relationship satisfaction and cognitive health. This study examined the daily, within-person association between relationship satisfaction and subjective health markers, including cognitive health.

Method: Caregivers of individuals with dementia ( = 191) or cancer ( = 137) provided premorbid and concurrent personality trait ratings using the Big Five Inventory-2.

Objectives: Life events can be stressful and have a detrimental impact on health, but evidence is inconclusive regarding life events and dementia risk. The present study tests whether life events are associated with incident dementia, whether experiencing multiple events has cumulative effects, and whether the associations vary across age, sex, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and genetic vulnerability.
Methods: UK Biobank participants (N = 493,787) reported on 6 life events that occurred within the past 2 years: serious illness, injury, assault to yourself or close relative, death of a spouse/partner or close relative, marital separation/divorce, and financial problems.
Background: Slow gait speed has been consistently associated with an increased risk of dementia. This study examined whether measures of balance and lower limb strength are similarly related to the risk of developing dementia.
Methods: Participants from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS, N = 5 658, mean age = 73.
Importance: Loneliness is associated with morbidity and mortality, including higher risk of neurodegenerative diseases. To our knowledge, no study has examined whether the association between loneliness and detrimental outcomes extends to Parkinson disease (PD).
Objective: To assess whether loneliness is associated with risk of incident PD and whether the association is independent of other risk factors or modified by age, sex, and genetic vulnerability.
Neuroticism is a major risk factor for neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. This study investigates whether neuroticism is associated with white matter hyperintensities and whether this measure of brain integrity is a mediator between neuroticism and cognitive function. Middle-aged and older adults from the UK Biobank (NÂ =Â 40,602; aged 45-82 years, MÂ =Â 63.

Treatment-related factors might worsen the arterial stiffness in chronic hemodialysis patients. The aim of the study is to compare the effects of 1-year treatment with paricalcitol or calcitriol on pulse wave velocity (PWV), which is an indicator of arterial stiffness and osteocalcin and fetuin-A levels.

Methods: One hundred and six oncology and 97 HD patients participated in the study.
Sexual satisfaction is an important concept in relationships contributing to psychological general well-being. The present study examined dyadic associations between mental health variables, particularly depression, anxiety, and stress, and sexual satisfaction. Using data of 102 heterosexual married couples from Turkey (mean age = 30.

Materials And Methods: Female HD patients whose pregnancy was retrospectively reported between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2019. The duration of HD, primary disease, whether the pregnancy resulted in abortion, stillbirth, or live birth, whether the HD duration was prolonged after diagnosing the pregnancy and whether it accompanied preeclampsia were recorded.
Purpose: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common genetic kidney disease and the majority of patients have a PKD-1 or PKD-2 mutation. Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) has roles in cellular aging, antioxidant activity, cellular proliferation. In an experimental study, inhibition of SIRT1 was found to delay renal cyst development in ADPKD.

There are studies reporting that soluble kltho (sKlotho) deficiency plays a role in cardiovascular disease in addition to traditional risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, anemia, smoking, and excessive volume burden. Our aim in this study was to investigate the relationship of sKlotho with uremic cardiomyopathy and echocardiographic parameters in patients receiving hemodialysis treatment. According to the median value, the sKlotho value was divided into two groups as ≥1.

Methods: One hundred and sixty-nine patients during the entire 12 months were enrolled into the study. Fasting plasma glucose, creatinine, calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, parathyroid hormone (PTH), C-reactive protein (CRP), serum iron, serum iron-binding capacity, and transferrin saturation were analyzed.
Purpose: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) has been associated with increased incidence of morbidity and mortality of the cardiovascular system. The pathogenetic mechanisms underlying this association are still not completely clear. A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin-like motifs (ADAMTS) play a critical role in atherosclerosis.

It has been hypothesized that heterozygous carriers may also have susceptibility to certain symptoms or even diseases. Because the living kidney donors of patients with FMF are generally relatives of the kidney recipients, there is a high possibility that the donors will have a heterozygous mutation of the FMF gene.
