Background: Incontinence is not rare after rectal cancer surgery. Platelet-rich plasma may promote tissue repair and generation but has never been tested for the treatment of anal incontinence. This study evaluated the impact of platelet-rich plasma injection on the severity of incontinence and quality of life after low rectal cancer surgery.

Neurocognitive training enhances the outcomes of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: A preliminary study.

Background: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by diverse clinical manifestations including inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.

Objective: The present study aims to investigate the effects of neurocognitive training (NT), a personalized and specialized exercise programme on symptoms, attention and dynamic balance in treatment-naïve children diagnosed with ADHD.

Methods: Fourteen treatment-naïve children aged 7-12 years diagnosed with ADHD were enrolled in the intervention group.

The effects of post-COVID-19 fatigue in nurses on organizational outcomes.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of fatigue in nurses with confirmed COVID-19 infection on organizational outcomes. The study was carried out with the participation of 200 nurses who had tested positive for COVID-19 in the last eighteen months and had COVID-19-related fatigue complaints. Data were collected between October 2022 and February 2023 using a questionnaire consisting of the Chalder Fatigue Scale, the Work Alienation Scale, the Turnover Intention Scale, and the Employee Performance Scale.

Optimization of the annealed proton exchange method with controlled annealing for multifunctional integrated optical chip production.

The main objective of our study is to develop a new approach to the annealed proton exchange (APE) method for the fabrication of the multifunctional integrated optical chip (MIOC) used in fiber-optic gyro systems and to eliminate the loss of time and material, especially in mass production applications. In this work, self-polarized waveguides, which are the basic components of a MIOC device, were produced by the APE method and studied. With the developed method, controlled annealing trials have been carried out from a certain region on the substrate used in waveguide production, and the annealing time specific to the annealing process was determined.

The association between pragmatic language impairment, social cognition and emotion regulation skills in adolescents with ADHD.

Objective: Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is associated with significant pragmatic language impairment and theory of mind deficits, but there are only a handful of studies have investigated the relationship between them in these conditions. This study aimed that investigate two different aspects of Theory of Mind (ToM) (ToM decoding and reasoning), pragmatic language impairment, and emotion regulation in patients with ADHD.

Method: Seventy adolescents with ADHD were compared to matched 64 healthy controls.

Altered regional grey matter volume and appetite-related hormone levels in adolescent obesity with or without binge-eating disorder.

Purpose: Binge eating disorder (BED) is characterized by frequent and persistent overeating episodes of binge eating without compensatory behaviors. The aim was to evaluate regional gray matter volume (GMV) abnormalities and appetite-regulating hormone levels (NPY and Leptin) in obese subjects either with or without BED compared to healthy controls (HC).

Methods: Twenty-six obese patients with BED, 25 obese patients without BED and 27 healthy subjects as an age-matched control group with neuroimaging and appetite-regulating hormone levels were found eligible for regional GMV abnormalities.

Surveillance and impact of occult hepatitis B virus, SEN virus, and torque teno virus in Egyptian hemodialysis patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection.

Objectives: Egypt ranks first regarding the prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Many patients have concomitant diseases like kidney disorders requiring hemodialysis, a procedure carrying the hazard of transmitting other hepatitis viruses. The purpose of this study was to investigate for occult hepatitis B virus (HBV), SEN virus (SENV), and torque teno virus (TTV) among chronic HCV patients on maintenance hemodialysis to identify their impacts.

Axis inhibition protein 1 (Axin1) Deletion-Induced Hepatocarcinogenesis Requires Intact β-Catenin but Not Notch Cascade in Mice.

Inactivating mutations of axis inhibition protein 1 (AXIN1), a negative regulator of the Wnt/β-Catenin cascade, are among the common genetic events in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), affecting approximately 10% of cases. In the present manuscript, we sought to define the genetic crosstalk between Axin1 mutants and Wnt/β-catenin as well as Notch signaling cascades along hepatocarcinogenesis. We discovered that c-MET activation and AXIN1 mutations occur concomitantly in ~3%-5% of human HCC samples.

Electrical characterization of two analogous Schottky contacts produced from N-substituted 1,8-naphthalimide.

The aim of this study was to analyze the interface states (Nss) in pure Al//p-Si/Al, Al/N-F Nft/p-Si/Al and Al/N-T Nft/p-Si/Al Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs). N-Substituted 1,8-naphthalimide thin films were deposited on a p-Si substrate by spin coating and annealed at ∼200 °C for 60 s under an air atmosphere. Al contacts were obtained via reactive magnetron sputtering.

Changes in hepatitis C virus genotype distribution in chronic hepatitis C infection patients.

Purpose: Identification of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes is very important in the selection of antiviral treatment, dose adjustment of antiviral agents, determining the treatment duration and following-up of treatment response. We aimed to determine the distribution pattern of HCV genotypes in chronic hepatitis C infection (CHC) patients.

Materials And Methods: We have included 106 CHC patients who were positive in the anti-HCV and HCV-RNA tests performed in our hospital during the 16-month period.

Risk factors for recurrences in patients with hepatitis C virus after achieving a sustained virological response: a multicentre study from Turkey.

In this study, we aimed to determine the late relapse rate in hepatitis C patients with sustained virological response after interferon-based regimens, and evaluated the predictors of late relapse while comparing the real-life data of our country with that of others. A multicenter retrospective study was performed to investigate the data of patients infected with HCV who obtained sustained virological response after classical or pegylated interferon alpha (PegIFNα) and ribavirin (RBV) for 48 weeks. Sustained virological response was based on negative HCV RNA level by PCR at the end of six months after the therapy.

Epstein-Barr virus-associated haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis presenting with acute sensorineural hearing loss: a case report and review of the literature.

Epstein-Barr virus-associated haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (EBV-HLH) is a life-threatening catastrophic and rarely seen complication of EBV infection especially in adults. While typical presentation of EBV infection is easily diagnosed as mononucleosis syndrome in teenagers and adults, some atypical clinical presentations may be challenged. We did not encounter any patient presenting with sudden sensorineural hearing loss associated with EBV infection in our English medical literature research (1966-2016).

Wartime infections and tragedies at the beginning of the 20th century in the Eastern part of Turkey.

In the early 20th century, Europe and the Ottoman Empire as a whole experienced a large number of epidemic diseases, and several wars. During World War I (WW1) a general mobilization of the medical services under Ottoman Empire rule was enacted. However, shortages of food and water, unfavourable weather and poor sanitary conditions resulted in numerous diseases at the battle fronts.

Tetanus in adults: results of the multicenter ID-IRI study.

Tetanus is an acute, severe infection caused by a neurotoxin secreting bacterium. Various prognostic factors affecting mortality in tetanus patients have been described in the literature. In this study, we aimed to analyze the factors affecting mortality in hospitalized tetanus patients in a large case series.

Clinical usefulness and performance of acoustic radiation force impulse in patients with chronic hepatitis B.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) compared with liver biopsy in quantifying fibrosis levels in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB).

Patients And Methods: The study was approved by the institutional review board at our hospital. One hundred CHB patients and 30 healthy controls (130 individuals) were included in the study.

Comparison of the Elecsys HBsAg II Assay and the Architect Assay for Quantification of hepatitis B surface antigen in patients with chronic hepatitis B.

Quantitative hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is a valuable tool in hepatitis B virus (HBV) disease diagnosis and management for evaluating the effectiveness of antiviral therapy. The aim of the current research was to compare the performances of the Elecsys HBsAg II and Abbott Architect HBsAg assays in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients. Between May 2014 and December 2014, 72 CHBs were tested using Abbott Architect HBsAg QT and Roche Elecsys HBsAg II assay.

Quality of life and related factors among chronic hepatitis B-infected patients: a multi-center study, Turkey.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients in Turkey and to study related factors.

Methods: This multicenter study was carried out between January 01 and April 15, 2015 in Turkey in 57 centers. Adults were enrolled and studied in three groups.

A Rare Ocular Manifestation of Adult Onset Still's Disease: Purtscher's-like Retinopathy.

Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare multisystemic immune-mediated disease of unknown etiology with quotidian spiking fever, evanescent rash, arthralgia, and multiple organ involvement. The few AOSD cases that have been reported developed Purtscher's-like retinopathy associated with thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). Here, we report Purtscher's-like retinopathy without TMA in a patient with AOSD.
