Background: Vitamin D deficiency is a significant global health concern. Experimental models are essential to elucidate the biochemical, histopathological, and immunological consequences of this deficiency. This study established a vitamin D deficiency rat model to mimic insufficient vitamin D intake and examine the resulting health impacts, particularly on liver, kidney, and immune functions.

Biomechanical comparison of two fixation methods for pediatric femoral neck fractures: an in vitro study using ovis aries lambs.

To determine the prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant genes in carbapenem-resistant (CRECO). A total of 290 carbapenem-resistant bacteria were collected from tertiary care hospitals in Lahore (Pakistan). These isolates were confirmed by VITEK 2 and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight.

Cisplatin-docetaxel induction chemotherapy for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma in a non-endemic cohort.

This is the report on our clinic's 15 years of experience (2004-2018) on nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), treated with induction chemotherapy (IC) and subsequent concomitant chemoradiotherapy (CCRT), comprising population characteristics and treatment outcomes of 203 patients with non-metastatic NPC. IC comprised docetaxel (75 mg/m) and cisplatin (75 mg/m) combination (TP). Concurrent cisplatin (P) was applied either weekly (40 mg/m, 32 cases) or every-3-week (100 mg/m, 171 cases).

Effects of L-carnitine on healing of Achilles tendon in rats.

Objectives: In this experimental study, we aimed to analyze the effects of levocarnitine (L-carnitine) on tendon healing after surgical repair of Achilles tendon rupture in a rat model.

Materials And Methods: The study included 40 Wistar Albino rats divided into four groups: Group 1, neither surgical intervention nor substance applications were performed for the Achilles tendons. In the other groups, the right Achilles tendons were cut using a scalpel and repaired with a modified Kessler-type technique with 3/0 monofilament polydioxanone suture.

Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to determine whether abdominal aortic intima-media thickness (AAIMT), which is the earliest zone of atherosclerotic manifestations, has a predictive value in CAD severity.

Introduction: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a common disorder and associated with significant morbidity of the hip joint. Several risk factors have been identified for DDH. The aim of this study is to investigate whether vitamin D and vitamin D receptor (VDR) levels differ in children with DDH and whether they have an effect on DDH development.

The Effects of Initial Procalcitonin Levels on Mortality Rates in Geriatric Patients Undergoing Surgery.

Introduction The aim of the current study is to investigate the relationship between mortality rate in geriatric patients undergoing surgery with preoperative serum levels of procalcitonin, C-reactive protein, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Methods This was a single-center retrospective study, including three groups with 101 patients, who are older than 65 years of age. A retrospective investigation was carried out from the laboratory information system for all groups from January to December 2018.

Seroepidemiology of hepatitis viruses, measles, mumps, rubella and varicella among healthcare workers and students: Should we screen before vaccination?

Background: Health care workers (HCWs) and students are at increased risk for blood borne infections and vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs). The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of antibodies against measles, rubella, mumps, varicella zoster virus (VZV), hepatitis A and B viruses among HCWs and students and to determine whether there are differences according to gender and age group.

Methods: Information about characteristics of the 1053 participants, history of disease and vaccination status were collected using a structured questionnaire.

A very rare renal venous anomaly: Accessory polar left renal vein.

A 49-year-old female patient with hypertension was admitted with an intraabdominal murmur and referred for multidetector computed tomography angiography for suspected renal artery stenosis. Her medical history, clinical examination, serum biochemistry, and ultrasound examination findings showed no pathological findings of diabetes mellitus or any other disease. Axial and coronal reformatted multidetector computed tomography angiography revealed a dilated accessory polar renal vein which drained the venous circulation of the left lower pole into the inferior vena cava at midline.

Background: We aimed to investigate whether non-alcoholic fatty pancreas disease (NAFPD) is associated with epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), which is a kind of ectopic fat accumulation, and aortic intima-media thickness (aIMT), which is associated with subclinical atherosclerosis.

Methods: Fifty-four patients with NAFPD (22 men; mean age: 52 ± 10 years) and 49 without NAFPD (16 men; mean age: 49 ± 8 years) were included in this study. NAFPD and aIMT were evaluated using transabdominal ultrasonography (TUS).
