International medical students in Türkiye: a cross-sectional study on their reasons for choosing Türkiye and their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics.

The aim of this study is to investigate the reasons why international medical students choose Türkiye, which has one of the largest higher education capacities in Europe and is also among the top 10 most preferred countries in the world by international students, and their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. The data of this cross-sectional study were collected through an online survey that included questions such as students' gender, age, ethnicity, monthly income, pre-school education, parental education level and professions, number of siblings, rural status of the region where they grew up, and reasons for choosing Türkiye. 482 students at various grade levels from 30 medical schools participated in the study.

The Effect of Hospital-to-Home Discharge Interventions on Reducing Unplanned Hospital Readmissions: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Background And Objectives: Unplanned hospital readmissions (UHRs) constitute a persistent health concern worldwide. A high level of UHRs imposes a burden on individuals, their families, and health care system budgets. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of discharge interventions in the transition from hospital to home in the context of reducing UHRs.

Effect of latanoprost on choroidal thickness in patients with newly diagnosed primary open-angle glaucoma.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of latanoprost on choroidal thickness in patients with newly diagnosed primary open-angle glaucoma using Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography (SS-OCT).

Methods: The retrospective, non-randomized study comprised 40 newly diagnosed primary open-angle glaucoma patients receiving latanoprost therapy (Group 1). Additionally, 40 age- and sex-matched healthy subjects served as the control group (Group 2).

Culture shock among international students in Turkey: an analysis of the effects of self-efficacy, life satisfaction and socio-cultural adaptation on culture shock.

In this study, we investigated whether the interaction effects of self-efficacy, life satisfaction, and sociocultural adjustment have significant negative effects on culture shock. The data were collected from 323 international students in Turkey, and the sample comprised 197 undergraduates (61%) and 126 graduates (39%). We administered the "Culture Shock Questionnaire," "General Self-Efficacy Scale", "The Satisfaction with Life Scale", and "Sociocultural Adaptation Scale" through an online survey.

New approach to AGV implantation with scleral tunnel method by prolene suture: .

Methods: This retrospective study included glaucoma patients who underwent AGV implantation using the suture-assisted long scleral tunnel method and were fellowed for at least 6 months between January 2022 and November 2022. Preoperative and postoperative assessments included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), anterior and posterior segment examinations, anti-glaucomatous medications, and intraoperative and postoperative complications were also evaluated.

This meta-analysis study was carried out to assess the effectiveness of aromatherapy in the treatment of labor pain. The analysis included 14 randomized controlled trials of aromatherapy interventions for labor pain.

Why research productivity of some scientists is higher? Effects of social, economic and cultural capital on research productivity.

In the past decades, the awareness about the concept of research productivity at higher education institutions has improved which led to an increase in the number of studies dealing with the subject. Such studies mostly deal with correlations between research productivity and organizational elements, gender, age, professional experience, and alma mater characteristics. To provide an innovative dimension to the existing studies this study focuses on the interaction between the research productivity of the scientists and their childhood period and childhood setting.

The effects of parental's cultural and economic capital and parental support on being an elite scientists.

Despite the rapid increase in the number of scientists all over the world in recent years, very few scientists can achieve to be part of elite scientist's category. Although there are many studies focusing on elite scientists, these studies generally do not focus on their childhood and parental background. In this study, which attempts to fill this gap, we focus on the cultural and economic capital of the families of elite scientists in Turkey and their parental support in childhood to analyze the roles of these variables in their being elite scientists.

Acceptance and use of the distance education systems of Turkish medical educators during COVID-19 pandemic: an analysis of contextual factors with the UTAUT2.

The aim of this study was to analyze the factors that has affected the use and approval of distance education systems during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey according to the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2). The study provided valuable insights on factors affecting the acceptance and use of distance education systems, which have become vital media of instruction since 2020. A total of 708 medical educators volunteered to participate in the study.

A Case Report of Conjunctival Extranodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma Treated with Intralesional Rituximab Injection Therapy.

Purpose: To describe the safety and efficacy of intralesional rituximab (anti-CD 20 monoclonal antibody) therapy in a patient with conjunctival extranodal marginal zone lymphoma.

Methods: A single case report from a tertiary referral center.

Results: A 43 years old female patient with low-grade conjunctival extranodal marginal zone lymphoma who was completely and safely treated with intralesional rituximab therapy was presented.

Methods: The descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted from April to September 2015 at the Chemotherapy Treatment Centre of the Medicine Chest Diseases Clinic at the Ege University, Izmir, Turkey, and comprised lung cancer patients of either gender aged >18 years. Catalytic pyrolysis of olive oil residue to produce synthesis gas: the effect of bulk and nano metal oxides.

In this study, olive oil residue (OR) biomass was pyrolyzed in the presence of bulk MgO (B-MgO), nano-MgO (N-MgO), bulk ZnO (B-ZnO)), and nano-ZnO (N- ZnO) metal oxides at different temperatures (400, 600, and 800 ºC). Significant results were obtained in terms of synthesis gas formation and CO reduction. The efficiency distribution of the products obtained as a result of the metal oxide-based pyrolysis process and the effects of metal oxides were examined in detail.

Validity and reliability evidence for the scale of distance education satisfaction of medical students based on item response theory (IRT).

Background: The objective of this study is to reveal on the basis of the item response theory (IRT) the validity and reliability evidence for the data obtained from the scale prepared to determine the satisfaction with distance education in students studying in medical schools.

Methods: This is a quantitative study exploring IRT and measurement invariance evidence in developing a scale. The scale whose IRT evidence was explored was the Distance Education Satisfaction Scale (DESS).

This study analyzes the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on grade inflation in higher education. Data were collected from five universities in Turkey, including grades of 152,352 students who attended 2,841 courses conducted by 903 instructors before the COVID-19 pandemic and grades of 149,936 students who attended 2,841 courses conducted by 847 instructors during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of this study demonstrate that the COVID-19 pandemic causes a marginal increase in grades in higher education when the other factors that might explain the differences are controlled.
