We investigated the factors related to surgical outcome within a homogeneous group of patients suffering from pathologically proven mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis (MTLE-HS), and compared Engel's outcome classification system with the latest one proposed by the ILAE.
Method: We included 109 patients with MTLE-HS who were followed-up for at least 1 year after epilepsy surgery.
Objective: Evidence reveals the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in many pathologies including periodontitis. Protein carbonylation is the most widely used biomarker for oxidative damage to proteins, and reflects cellular damage induced by ROS. In this study protein carbonyl (PC) levels in serum and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) was evaluated.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the potential impact of inflammation and loading on PISF myeloperoxidase (MPO) levels, in comparison with GCF.
Materials And Methods: A total of 220 sites, dental implant (immediately [IL] or delayed loaded [DL]), and natural tooth, either healthy/noninflamed or gingivitis/inflamed, were classified.
Purpose: The aim of the present study was to analyze the 2 molecular measures of inflammation: (1) the nitrite, an end metabolite of nitric oxide (NO) oxidation and (2) myeloperoxidase (MPO). Both are found in peri-implant sulcus fluid (PISF) of implants and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of natural teeth in healthy or diseased states.
Materials And Methods: A total of 109 tooth or dental implant sites, either healthy/noninflamed, inflamed (Gingival Index [GI] > 0), or affected by periodontitis, were classified, and GCF/PISF samples were obtained.
Background: Gingival enlargement is usually noted within one to two months after the initiation of nifedipine therapy. The aetiology of nifedipine-induced gingival overgrowth is uncertain. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between plasma and gingival crevice fluid (GCF) nifedipine concentrations and the degree of gingival overgrowth in patients treated with nifedipine, and also to assess the correlations between clinical and pharmacological variables.

Our objective was to investigate the efficacy of intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion on postoperative shivering.
Methods: Ninety female patients, ASA I-II, 35-60 yr old, scheduled for elective total abdominal hysterectomy with or without bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy were randomized into two groups.
Better clarification of the long-term relationship among the various implant-related measures could improve the evaluation process for dental implants. Thus, the aim of the present study was to determine the potential correlations among the volumetric features and nitric oxide content of peri-implant sulcus fluid (PISF) and measures of implant stability, and the marginal bone loss. Completely edentulous patients (n=15) treated with dental implants and ball attachment mandibular over dentures were included.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to compare connective tissue graft (CTG)+PRP with CTG alone in the treatment of gingival recession.
Cardiovascular diseases are the main causes of morbidity and mortality following renal transplantation. Atherosclerotic structural changes, which can be detected by high-resolution B-mode ultrasonography, begin before clinical findings. However, little is known about the extent of these abnormalities in children after renal transplantation.

Methods: This study was performed in The Ministry of Health Ankara Numune Research and Training Hospital, Ankara, Turkey, from January to May 2005. The 40 American Society of Anesthesiology II/III patients were randomized into 2 groups.
Objective: Antioxidant defence reduces in diabetes mellitus (DM) and periodontitis. This study investigates antioxidant enzyme; superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in gingiva and blood glucose and lipid levels in type-2 DM patients and systemically healthy individuals with chronic periodontitis (CP).
Materials And Methods: Periodontal parameters, blood glycated-haemoglobin (HbA1c), glucose and lipid levels, and gingival-SOD activities (spectrophotometric assay) were measured in 17 DM patients with CP (DMCP), 17 systemically healthy CP patients, 18 periodontally healthy DM patients (DMPH), and 17 healthy controls (PH).
Aim: To determine the gastroesophageal refluxate in the cervical esophagus (CE) and measure transcutaneous cervical esophageal ultrasound (TCEUS) findings [anterior wall thickness (WT) of CE, esophageal luminal diameter (ELD), esophageal diameter (ED)]; to compare TCEUS findings in the patient subgroups divided according to 24-h esophageal pH monitoring and manometry; and to investigate possible cut-off values according to the TCEUS findings as a predictor of gastroesophageal reflux (GER).
Methods: In 45/500 patients, refluxate was visualized in TCEUS. 38/45 patients underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), 24-h pH monitoring and manometry.
Background: During the assessments made at presurgical, surgical, and follow-up phases, the clinician may benefit from a wide array of clinical and/or image-based measures. Because analysis of the potential associations among the various measures could improve the evaluation process for dental implants, this study attempted to determine the potential correlations among peri-implant sulcus fluid (PISF) volume, implant stability, nitric oxide content of PISF, and marginal bone loss.
Methods: Seventeen completely edentulous patients seeking prosthetic rehabilitation were included.
Background: Various surveillance methods have been described for surveillance of surgical site infections (SSI). The aim of this study was to examine practicality of SSI risk assessment methods (Study on the Efficacy of Nosocomial Infection Control [SENIC] and National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance [NNIS]) with a postoperative wound monitoring scale (ASEPSIS) as an outcome assessment measure.
Materials And Methods: Patients were followed with a prospective data chart from January 1, 2003, to December 31, 2005.
Objectives: Increased levels of reactive oxygen species lead to oxidative stress. Recent data suggest increased lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels and oxidative stress in periodontitis. Malondialdehyde (MDA), a significant LPO product, increases in oxidative stress.
