Purpose: The Ahmed FP-7 valve is useful in the management of refractory glaucoma. However, this can often have ocular hypertensive phase and subconjunctival fibrosis that can lead to increased medication use and failure. We report how retrobulbar and intraconal plate placement with tube extension can avoid the ocular hypertensive phase, lower intraocular pressure, and reduce medication burden.

Purpose: To assess the validity of a novel, low-cost glaucoma screening calculator in determining glaucoma risk in high-risk New York communities.

Patients And Methods: This prognostic community-based study was conducted in New York City neighborhoods from 2022 to 2024 among participants aged 40 years and older. Glaucoma screenings were held at community gatherings including local fairs, senior citizen homes, places of worship, and in the lobby of medical offices.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of severe loss of central vision among people over 50. The pathophysiology of the disease is multifactorial and can be attributed to genetics, aging, inflammation, environmental factors, and lifestyle factors including smoking, diet, obesity, and alcohol consumption. While there is no treatment for dry AMD, the current standard treatment for wet AMD is an intraocular injection of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor-an effective, yet expensive, therapy that requires ongoing treatment.
