The impact of an enhanced recovery after minimally invasive surgery program on opioid use in gynecologic oncology patients undergoing hysterectomy.

Objectives: To evaluate the effects of an enhanced recovery after minimally invasive surgery (MIS-ERAS) protocol on opioid requirements and post-operative pain in patients undergoing minimally invasive hysterectomy on a gynecologic oncology service.

Methods: For this retrospective study, opioid use (oral morphine equivalents (OME)) and post-operative pain scores were compared between patients undergoing minimally invasive hysterectomy pre and post MIS-ERAS protocol implementation. Patients with chronic opioid use or chronic pain were excluded.

5-HTTLPR as a potential moderator of the effects of adverse childhood experiences on risk of antisocial personality disorder.

Introduction: Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) frequently co-occurs with substance dependence (SD). A functional polymorphism (5-HTTLPR) in the serotonin transporter gene has been widely studied as a risk factor for a variety of psychopathologic conditions including aggressive/violent behavior. Childhood abuse is an important predictor of ASPD.

Adverse childhood events as risk factors for substance dependence: partial mediation by mood and anxiety disorders.

Aims: Adverse childhood events (ACEs) are associated with negative health outcomes. We examined ACEs as risk factors for substance dependence (SD) and the mediating effects of mood and anxiety disorders on the relations between ACEs and SD risk.

Design: We compared early life experiences in 2061 individuals with a lifetime diagnosis of alcohol, cocaine, or opioid dependence and 449 controls.
