Neurotized congenital melanocytic nevus and pigmented neurofibroma (PNF) are close mimics and pose a clinicopathological challenge. We present a case of pigmented hypertrichotic plaque over lumbosacral region and discuss the differential diagnosis and its clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemistry features which may aid in differentiation. We highlight the difficulties faced in differentiating neurotized congenital melanocytic nevus from pigmented neurofibroma.

Plant alkaloid chelerythrine induced aggregation of human telomere sequence--a unique mode of association between a small molecule and a quadruplex.

Small molecules that interact with G-quadruplex structures formed by the human telomeric region and stabilize them have the potential to evolve as anticancer therapeutic agents. Herein we report the interaction of a putative anticancer agent from a plant source, chelerythrine, with the human telomeric DNA sequence. It has telomerase inhibitory potential as demonstrated from telomerase repeat amplification assay in cancer cell line extract.

Here, we have elucidated the NMR structure and the dynamics of GC mismatched DNA (PDB code: 2MJX) and found that the mismatched DNA still retains the typical B-type helical form, but in the process introduces backbone distortion resulting from frame-shifted base pairs.

Gelatinous marrow transformation (GMT) or serous atrophy of bone marrow (BM) is a rare disease characterised by focal marrow hypoplasia, fat atrophy, and accumulation of extracellular mucopolysaccharides abundant in hyaluronic acid. This study reviews 11 cases of GMT from South India. Clinical and haematological parameters, BM aspirate, and biopsies of all patients diagnosed with GMT over a period of 7 years were studied.

Introduction: Bone marrow involvement by a non-haematological malignancy gives an opportunity to identify the lodgement, invasion of metastatic cells and the response of the host to the tumor cells. The study was undertaken to assess the involvement of bone marrow with non-haematopoietic malignancies and its significance in establishing primary diagnosis in clinically unsuspected cases.

Stochastic galactokinase expression underlies GAL gene induction in a GAL3 mutant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

GAL1 and GAL3 are paralogous signal transducers that functionally inactivate Gal80p to activate the Gal4p-dependent transcriptional activation of GAL genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae in response to galactose. Unlike a wild-type strain, the gal3∆ strain shows delayed growth kinetics as a result of the signaling function of GAL1. The mechanism ensuring that GAL1 is eventually expressed to turn on the GAL switch in the gal3∆ strain remains a paradox.
