Exogenous application of salicylic acid (SA) has been known for delaying ripening in many fruit and vegetables. But the function of endogenous SA in relation to postharvest fruit performance is still unexplored. To understand the role of endogenous SA in postharvest fruit ripening of tomato, 33 tomato lines were examined for their endogenous SA content, membrane stability index (MSI), and shelf life (SL) at turning and red stages of tomato fruit ripening.

Myricitrin, a naturally occurring flavonoid in Madhuca longifolia, possesses several medicinal properties. Even though our earlier work revealed its role against the proliferation of acute myelogenous leukemia cells (HL-60), its molecular mechanisms have not yet been revealed. The current study aims to explore the molecular mechanisms of myricitrin (isolated from an ethnomedicinal drug Madhuca longifolia) to induce apoptosis in HL-60 cells.

The regeneration of critical-sized bone defects with biomimetic scaffolds remains clinically challenging due to avascular necrosis, chronic inflammation, and altered osteogenic activity. Two confounding mechanisms, efficacy manipulation, and temporal regulation dictate the scaffold's bone regenerative ability. Equally critical is the priming of the mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) toward lineage-specific differentiation into bone-forming osteoblast, which particularly depends on varied mechanochemical and biological cues during bone tissue regeneration.

Conventional therapy of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) remains challenging with the pitfall of toxicity, drug resistance, and expensive. Hence, urgent need for an alternative approach is essential. In this study, we evaluated the potential of combination therapy with eugenol oleate and miltefosine in Leishmania donovani infected macrophages and in the BALB/c mouse model.

Article Synopsis
  • - Asthma is a chronic condition characterized by inflammation in the airways, leading to symptoms like airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and structural changes in the airways.
  • - This study tested the effects of tannic acid (TA), a natural compound, on a mouse model of allergic asthma induced by ovalbumin (OVA), finding that TA significantly reduced AHR, inflammatory cell infiltration, and levels of inflammatory markers.
  • - TA also decreased mucus production and airway remodeling caused by OVA exposure and inhibited the activation of NF-κB, suggesting it could be a potential treatment for allergic asthma in humans.

Background: This study aims to analyze the cost of the entire transfusion process in Turkey including evaluation of the cost of transfusion from the perspective of hospital management and determination of savings achieved with the transfusion improvement program.

Methods: Invoices, labor, material costs were calculated with micro-costing method, while general production expenses were calculated with gross costing method between January 2018 and December 2019. Unit costs for each blood product were calculated separately by collecting unit acquisition costs, material costs, labor costs, and general production expenses and, then, distributed into six different blood products as follows: erythrocyte suspension, fresh frozen plasma, pooled platelet, apheresis platelet, cryoprecipitate, fresh whole blood.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of syringic acid (SA) against propylthiouracil (PTU)-induced hypothyroidism in rats. SA at a prestandardized dose, 50 mg/kg/day, was orally administered to PTU-induced hypothyroid rats for 30 days, and alterations in the levels of serum triiodothyronine (T ), thyroxine (T ), thyrotropin (TSH), alanine transaminase (ALT), and aspartate transaminase (AST); tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6); total cholesterol (CHOL) and triglycerides (TG); hepatic lipid peroxidation (LPO) and antioxidants (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione content), as well as histological changes in liver and thyroid were examined. The molecular interactions of the ligand, SA, with thyroid-related protein targets, such as human thyroid hormone receptor β (hTRβ), and thyroid peroxidase (TPO) protein, were studied using molecular docking.

An Fe(OTf)3-catalysed carboarylation of alkynes is reported for the straightforward synthesis of densely substituted 1,2-dihydroquinolines from N-propargyl anilides and π-activated alcohols. The reaction provides a new method for the synthesis of highly substituted benzofused six-membered heterocycles by the formation of two carbon-carbon bonds and one ring in a single step. The power of the methodology was further extended to the synthesis of substituted chromene and thiochromene derivatives in high yields.

Inflammatory disease (ID) is an umbrella term encompassing all illnesses involving chronic inflammation as the central manifestation of pathogenesis. These include, inflammatory bowel diseases, hepatitis, pulmonary disorders, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, pancreatitis, arthritis, periodontitis, psoriasis. The IDs create a severe burden on healthcare and significantly impact the global socio-economic balance.

In this study, an underutilized citrus family fruit named grapefruit was explored for the extraction of lycopene using supercritical carbon dioxide (CO) extraction technique. An experimental design was developed using response surface methodology to investigate the effect of supercritical carbon dioxide (CO) operating parameter viz., pressure, temperature, CO flow rate, and extraction time on the extraction yield of lycopene yield from grapefruit.

Introduction: OSA has been postulated to be associated with mortality in COVID-19, but studies are lacking thereof. This study was done to estimate the prevalence of OSA in patients with COVID-19 using various screening questionnaires and to assess effect of OSA on outcome of disease.

Methodology: In this prospective observational study, consecutive patients with RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19 were screened for OSA by different questionnaires (STOPBANG, Berlin Questionnaire, NoSAS, and Epworth Scale).

(E)-3-Phenyl-1-(2-(phenylethynyl) phenyl) prop-2-en-1-one is shown as a chemodosimetric sensor where it selectively senses toxic BF3, scrutinized through electronic spectral analysis and recognized with the naked eye. The probable binding mechanism is proposed based on the electronic spectral analysis, NMR titration and the ESI-MS technique. The incredible increase in fluorescence intensity (60-fold) in less than 2 minutes along with an extremely low detection limit (6.

Nurses' turnover is a major global problem with significant service and cost implications. Although sizeable research inquiries have been made into the antecedents, the dynamics, and the consequences of nurses' turnover, there is still a lack of fine-grained understanding of the psychological states that reflect the cumulative impact of different antecedents and immediately precede nurses' intentions to quit either from their unit/organization and/or their profession. This paper introduces and develops a meaning-based view of nurses' turnover.

Over the past decade, immunotherapies have revolutionized the treatment of cancer. Although the success of immunotherapy is remarkable, it is still limited to a subset of patients. More than 1500 clinical trials are currently ongoing with a goal of improving the efficacy of immunotherapy through co-administration of other agents.

Background: Iliac crest is the most preferred autogenous bone graft harvesting donor site while it has sorts of complications like prolonged pain, hematoma, and fracture. Harvesting cancellous bone from proximal tibia is also increasingly being used because of lower complications and less donor site pain. However, there are lack of studies to compare these two donor sites in detail.
