The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of N-G-nitro-L-arginine-methyl ester (L-NAME), a nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, on the gastric mucosal barrier in rats. A group of Swiss albino rats received L-NAME (60 mg/kg/d) in their drinking water daily for 21 d. The mucin and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) contents of the gastric mucosa were measured in gastric tissue samples.

The aim of this study was to determine the levels of tissue and blood zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), magnesium (Mg) in nitric oxide (NO) synthase blockade-induced hypertension. A group of albino rats received a NO synthase inhibitor, N(G)-nitro-L-arginine-methyl ester (L-NAME, 60 mg/kg/d) in their drinking water for 21 d. L-NAME intake caused a progressive rise in this group's resting mean arterial blood pressure compared to a control group (p < 0.

1. The effects of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced experimental diabetes on nitrergic-mediated responses to GABA and electrical field stimulation (EFS) have been evaluated in rat isolated duodenum. 2.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe investigated the effect of adenosine on hypnosis induced by thiopentone, propofol and midazolam in mice. The onset and duration of hypnosis were determined by the loss of righting reflex. Adenosine and 2-chloroadenosine caused a significant shortening of onset of sleep-time and prolongation of duration of sleep-time in all groups (p < 0.

1. Hypertension and renal failure are the two most common and severe complications due to cyclosporine A (CsA) therapy after transplantation. To determine whether an in vivo treatment with pentoxifylline (PTX) can prevent the toxic effects of CsA, three groups of rats were studied.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFNitric oxide (NO) formation has been shown in many neuronal tissues subserves a variety of functions. N-Methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor stimulation which releases nitric oxide and raises cGMP levels, mediates epileptiform activity induced by various agents. Disinhibition of inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and/or activation of NMDA receptor appears to be factors involved in the initiation and generalization of the pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) induced seizures.

There are several possible explanations for HIG accumulation at focal infection sites such as increased vascular permeability, binding of the Fc part of Ig to Fc receptors of leucocytes and binding directly to bacteria. In this study, we compared Tc-99m HIG and Ga-67 citrate scintigraphy in localizing acute bacterial abscesses induced by E.

1. Intrathecal saline, the mu opioid agonist [D-Ala2, MePhe4, Gly5-ol] enkephalin (DAGO) and delta opioid agonist [D-Pen2, D-Pen5] enkephalin (DPDPE) had no significant effects on systemic blood pressure and heart rate values. 2.

A hemorheological mechanism has been proposed for the hemodynamic effects of cyclosporin A (CsA). In vivo and in vitro effects of CsA on red blood cell (RBC) deformability were investigated in guinea pigs. RBC transit time, measured by a cell transit analyzer, was found to be prolonged, implying impaired deformability in guinea pigs treated with CsA (10 mg/kg/day) for 7 days.

It is well known that phosphodiesterase inhibitors, such as MB 22948 or papaverine, induce endothelium-dependent relaxation by potentiating the effects of endothelium-derived relaxing factor released spontaneously in vascular tissues. The present study was planned to determine whether the vasodilator properties of pentoxifylline, a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, are endothelium-dependent and modulated by its phosphodiesterase inhibitory activity in rabbit aorta. In opened aortic rings precontracted with phenylephrine (0.
