Measurement of Patient's Perception Levels With Reference to Physician's Empathy: Private Hospitals Scenario.

Purpose This study aims at understanding the empathy of doctors and the perception level of patients about it. The survey was conducted including doctors and patients who were cured by these doctors. Methods Patient's Perception Scale of Physician Empathy and Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy were applied to 70 physicians who worked at 35 private hospitals in Istanbul and 420 patients who received health services from these physicians.

Physics-constrained, low-dimensional models for magnetohydrodynamics: First-principles and data-driven approaches.

Plasmas are highly nonlinear and multiscale, motivating a hierarchy of models to understand and describe their behavior. However, there is a scarcity of plasma models of lower fidelity than magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), although these reduced models hold promise for understanding key physical mechanisms, efficient computation, and real-time optimization and control. Galerkin models, obtained by projection of the MHD equations onto a truncated modal basis, and data-driven models, obtained by modern machine learning and system identification, can furnish this gap in the lower levels of the model hierarchy.

Investigation of skin self-examination and sunscreen use in adolescents in northern Cyprus.

Introduction: Regular skin self-examination (SSE) is very important for the early diagnosis of malignant melanoma (MM). Since sun exposure is the most important trigger factor for the development of skin cancers, effective and regular sun protection is the main preventive method.

Aim: To investigate the awareness of SSE, risky nevus and sun protection of the adolescents in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

A case of lipomembranous panniculitis with a dramatic response to the treatment of venous insufficiency.

Lipomembranous panniculitis (LP) is a peculiar type of fat necrosis and is reported with various clinical conditions, mostly with peripheral vascular diseases. Here, a case of a 57-year-old woman with a painful erythematous swelling of the right leg in association with venous insufficiency has been reported. Although LP is frequently associated with venous insufficiency, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the beneficial effect of venous insufficiency treatment in LP.

The role of geriatric assessment tests and anthropometric measurements in identifying the risk of falls in elderly nursing home residents.

Objectives: To determine the relation among the risk of falls, geriatric assessment, and anthropometric measurements, including the mini mental state examination, geriatric depression scale, handgrip test, and key pinch test.

Methods: This prospective study included 89 residents hospitalized between May 2014 and September 2015 in the geriatric care unit of the Istanbul Balikli Rum Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey. Patients were followed-up for one year, and their falls were recorded.

Anthropometric measurements may be informative for nursing home-acquired pneumonia.

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between anthropometric measurements and Nursing Home-Acquired Pneumonia (NHAP) risk.

Methods: Consecutive patients of 65 years or elderly who were living in the Balikli Rum Hospital Nursing Homes were included in this prospective study. At the beginning of this study, the patients' anthropometrics values were measured.

Systemic Isotretinoin Treatment and Pregnancy: A Longitudinal Cohort Study from Turkey.

Objective: Isotretinoin is known to be the most effective treatment of severe and persistent acne. However, one of the most important adverse effects of this drug is known to be teratogenicity. In this regard, tests are administered before initiating the treatment, to assure that an unknown pregnancy is not present and accordingly, patients are advised to take contraceptive precautions during their systemic isotretinoin treatments.

Hidroa vacciniforme.

Hidroa vacciniforme is a rare chronic photodermatosis with unknown cause in which lesions appear with exposure to sun. Early diagnosis and treatment of this disease which is characterized with recurrent vesicles and bullae on areas which are exposed to sun including the face and distal parts of the extremities is important, since it recovers by leaving scar. Here, a six-year old girl who presented to our clinic with eruptions on the face for three years and who was diagnosed with hidroa vacciniforme was presented in accompaniment of current information because of the rarity of the disease.

Facial and Periorbital Cellulitis due to Skin Peeling with Jet Stream by an Unauthorized Person.

Technologies and devices for cosmetic procedures are developing with each passing day. However, increased and unauthorized use of such emerging technologies may also lead to increases in unexpected results and complications as well. Here, we report a case of facial cellulitis after a "beauty parlor" session of skin cleaning with jet stream peeling device in 19-year old female patient for the first time.

Examining job satisfaction among perfusionists: a brief report from Istanbul.

Objective: To investigate the level of job satisfaction among perfusionists in Turkey.

Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted from March to April 2012 comprising a randomly selected group of 52 perfusionists from public and private healthcare institutions in Istanbul. The questionnaire contained items about the socio-demographic characteristics of the perfusionists and an instrument especially designed to investigate their job satisfaction.

Background: The incidence of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) is increasing among adolescents all around the world. There may be differences in knowledge and attitudes among different cultures and ethnic populations. The aim of this study is to determine knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of Turkish Cypriot adolescents related to STDs.

Protective effect of dexamethasone on fetal rat skin in experimental intrauterine ischaemia/reperfusion injury.

Background: Perinatal asphyxia is an important cause of injury to fetal tissues such as the brain, heart, liver and gastrointestinal system. Fetal skin has also been shown to be vulnerable to intrauterine injury after intrauterine ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury.

Aim: To examine the effect of dexamethasone on fetal skin in intrauterine I/R injury in rats.

Faun tail nevus and spinal dysraphism: cosmetic improvement with alexandrite laser epilation.

Faun-tail presents as an abnormal lumbosacral hypertrischosis and may be associated with spinal dysrasphism. In addition to the problems due to spinal anomalies, patient's physico-social life may also be affected. Here, we report a case of 13 years old female patient with Faun-tail in association with sypinal dysraphism, in which cosmetic improvement was achieved with the help of Alexandrite laser.

Magnesium sulfate protects fetal skin from intrauterine ischemia reperfusion injury.

Intrauterine ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in fetus occurs with multifactorial pathogenesis and results with multiorgan injury including skin. Magnesium has widespread use in obstetric practice. Inn addition to magnesium's tocolytic and neuroprotective properties, it also has free radical reducing effects.

Plantar pitted keratolysis: a study from non-risk groups.

Pitted keratolysis is an acquired, superficial bacterial infection of the skin which is characterized by typical malodor and pits in the hyperkeratotic areas of the soles. It is more common in barefooted people in tropical areas, or those who have to wear occlusive shoes, such as soldiers, sailors and athletes. In this study, we evaluated 41 patients who had been diagnosed with plantar pitted keratolysis.

Effect of isotretinoin on prothrombin time (PT), international normalized ratio (INR), and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT).

Patients with severe acne may need elective/urgent surgical interventions during treatment with isotretinoin and it is critical for the surgeon to consider the possible effects of this medication on coagulation systems. The aim of this study is to determine the changes in prothrombin time (PT), international normalized ratio (INR), and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) during isotretinoin treatment. PT, aPTT, and INR values of 51 severe acne patients were evaluated during routine pre-treatment biochemical analysis.

Effect of intrauterine ischaemia-reperfusion injury on rat skin.

Introduction: It was previously demonstrated that decreased maternal blood flow might create impairment in skin development. The aim of this study was to show by means of lipid peroxidation the effect of intrauterine ischaemia-reperfusion injury on fetal rat skin.

Methods: In total, 24 female Spraque-Dawley rats, 19 days pregnant, were used.

Managing the blue man: multiple traumas involving a paint-carrying truck.

Introduction: This report describes the difficulty in evaluating a patient with multiple traumas because he was covered with paint poured from a truck in a car accident. Cleansing with paint thinner and isotonic saline solution was necessary.
