Introduction: We present a novel semi-automated computerized method for the detection and quantification of parafoveal capillary network (PCN) in fluorescein angiography (FA) images.

Material And Methods: An algorithm detecting the superficial parafoveal capillary bed in high-resolution grayscale FA images and creating a one-pixel-wide PCN skeleton was developed using MatLab software. In addition to PCN detection, capillary density and branch point density in two circular areas centered on the center of the foveal avascular zone of 500μm and 750μm radius was calculated by the algorithm.

Ultrasound elastography has become available in everyday practice, allowing direct measurement of tissue elasticity with important and expanding clinical applications. Several studies that have evaluated pathological and non-pathological tissues have demonstrated that ultrasound elastography can actually improve the diagnostic accuracy of the underlying disease process by detecting differences in their elasticity. Ocular and periocular tissues can also be characterized by their elastic properties.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to evaluate the applicability of optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography (OCTA) for measuring geographic atrophy (GA) areas in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients with "foveal" and "no-foveal" sparing disease and compare it to other imaging modalities.

Background: To compare intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements using Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) and air tonometer (non-contact tonometry [NT]) in vitrectomized eyes with high-viscosity silicone oil tamponade, as well as in normal eyes.

Patients And Methods: In this prospective comparative study, 32 eyes with silicone oil tamponade of high viscosity (5700 CS) and 32 normal fellow eyes were included. IOP was measured by GAT and air tonometer 30 ± 12 days after vitrectomy, while measurements of central corneal thickness (CCT) were also obtained.

Objective: To assess the morphology of perifoveal capillary network with quantitative parameters in young patients with diabetes mellitus type I (DM I) using an algorithm.

Methods: Fifty-three images (33 eyes of 33 DM I patients and 20 eyes of 20 non-DM controls) were chosen retrospectively from the University Hospital of Heraklion digital fluorescein angiography database. An additional group consisting of patients with advanced DR abnormalities was included in our analysis to investigate whether our method detects alterations when they are present.

Importance: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remains the leading cause of blindness in developed countries, and affects more than 150 million worldwide. Despite effective anti-angiogenic therapies for the less prevalent neovascular form of AMD, treatments are lacking for the more prevalent dry form. Similarities in risk factors and pathogenesis between AMD and atherosclerosis have led investigators to study the effects of statins on AMD incidence and progression with mixed results.
