A boy in middle childhood presented with complaints of swelling and pain in his right forearm for 4 months. He had previously undergone left above-elbow amputation due to a suspected malignant tumour in that arm. Radiological imaging revealed a locally aggressive bone tumour of the right distal radius.

Determinants of tumor necrosis and its impact on outcome in patients with Localized osteosarcoma uniformly treated with a response adapted regimen without high dose Methotrexate- A retrospective institutional analysis.

Purpose: Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in form of tumor necrosis predicts outcome in osteosarcoma; although response-adapted treatment escalation failed to improve outcome among patients treated with high-dose methotrexate-based (HDMTx) chemotherapy. This study aimed to identify factors predicting tumor necrosis and its impact on survival among patients with non-metastatic osteosarcoma treated with a response-adapted non-HDMTx regimen.

Methods: A retrospective single-institutional study was conducted among non-metastatic osteosarcoma patients treated with neoadjuvant therapy between 2004-2019.

Revolutionizing Limb Preservation: A Case Report on Recurrent Fungating Giant Cell Tumor with Encased Radial Artery in the Distal Radius.

Introduction: Giant cell tumor (GCT) of the bone, although benign, poses significant challenges due to its locally aggressive nature and high recurrence rates post-surgical intervention. Among skeletal GCTs, those affecting the distal radius present unique difficulties, especially when fungating masses encase vital structures such as blood vessels.

Case Report: We present a case of a 28-year-old male with a recurring GCT of the distal radius, where limb-preserving surgery was successfully performed despite encasement of the radial artery.

In this study, we present a gatemon fabricated in planar Germanium. We induce superconductivity in a two-dimensional hole gas by evaporating aluminum atop a thin spacer, which separates the superconductor from the Ge quantum well.

Endoprosthesis vs. nail-cement spacer application for reconstruction after oncologic proximal humeral resection: is there a difference in functional outcome?

Background: The proximal humerus is a common site for primary malignant and benign aggressive bone tumors, necessitating wide resection and subsequent skeletal defect reconstruction. Various reconstruction options include osteoarticular allografts, autografts, endoprosthesis, nail-cement spacer, reverse shoulder arthroplasty, and allograft-prosthesis composites. However, there is no consensus on the optimal reconstruction method.

We present the outcomes of ulnar buttress arthroplasty without stabilization of the ulna stump in giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) of the distal ulna.  Evaluation of functional outcome was performed using Musculoskeletal Tumor Society 93 (MSTS93) score, Modified Mayo Wrist score (MMWS), and Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire.

PRES in non-transplant cardiac surgery may reflect under-diagnosis and under-reporting. While the condition is reversible, a delay in diagnosis can lead to irreversible brain injury.

Endoscopic Retrieval of a Penetrating Ethmoid Sinus Foreign Body with a Successful Minimally Invasive Approach: A Case Report.

A 14-year-old girl suffered a rare injury when a pen pierced her left eye, leading to a foreign object lodged in her ethmoid sinus. Prompt diagnosis and endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) effectively removed the object, highlighting ESS as a valuable approach for managing uncommon sinus foreign bodies while minimizing complications.

Feasibility and Safety of Concomitant Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy With Open-Heart Surgery: A Systematic Review and Our Early Clinical Experience.

Significant valvular or coronary artery disease may co-exist in patients presenting with symptomatic cholelithiasis. Isolated laparoscopic cholecystectomy in these cases is often associated with cardiac complications. Addressing the cardiac condition first may result in flaring up of cholecystitis during postoperative recovery and is associated with adverse outcomes.

Functional Foods may be Dysfunctional: A South Asian Perspective.

This communication describes a few functional seeds and spices, commonly consumed in South Asia, which may impair the absorption of drugs that are used in diabetes and medical management. The aim of this article is to highlight the possibility of these foods having a 'dysfunctional', rather than functional effect on health. Physicians should include questions about the use of these spices in their history taking.

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging for myocardial viability assessment: Optimizing surgical revascularization in ischemic heart disease.

Background: Patients with poor ejection fraction undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting carry higher operative risk and have poor long-term survival. Cardiac magnetic resonance is a useful modality to assess viability which can identify patients likely to benefit most from revascularization. In this study, we aimed to assess the outcome in patients selected for surgical revascularization by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and identify predictors associated with poor outcomes.

Preventing Medicolegal Problems in Neurosurgical Practice: Do's and Don'ts.

There is a sea change in the scenario of medical practice, manifested in a serious trust deficit between patients and doctors and an exponential rise in malpractice litigation. This has given boost to the practice of defensive medicine by doctors. Neurosurgery is considered to be a high-risk branch of surgery in terms of potential for medicolegal issues.

Currently available quantum processors are dominated by noise, which severely limits their applicability and motivates the search for new physical qubit encodings. In this work, we introduce the inductively shunted transmon, a weakly flux-tunable superconducting qubit that offers charge offset protection for all levels and a 20-fold reduction in flux dispersion compared to the state-of-the-art resulting in a constant coherence over a full flux quantum. The parabolic confinement provided by the inductive shunt as well as the linearity of the geometric superinductor facilitates a high-power readout that resolves quantum jumps with a fidelity and QND-ness of >90% and without the need for a Josephson parametric amplifier.

Formulation and validation of a baseline prognostic score for osteosarcoma treated uniformly with a non-high dose methotrexate-based protocol from a low middle income healthcare setting: a single centre analysis of 594 patients.

Introduction: The outcomes of osteosarcoma in low middle income countries (LMICs) are different due to patients presenting in advanced stages, resource constraints and the use of non-high-dose-methotrexate (HDMTX)-based regimens. This study derived and validated a prognostic score for osteosarcoma that integrates biologic and social factors and is tailored for patients from an LMIC setting using a non-HDMTX-based protocol.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study including osteosarcoma patients enrolled for treatment at a single tertiary care centre in India between 2003-19 was conducted.

Purpose: Re-implantation of the tumor bearing autograft following extracorporeal radiation therapy (ECRT) has been established as an oncologically safe biological reconstruction technique following resection of bone sarcomas. However, factors affecting the ECRT graft-host bone incorporation have not been fully investigated. An insight into the factors that influence graft incorporation can circumvent the complications and increase graft survival.

Total arterial revascularization in a case of dextrocardia with situs inversus.

Dextrocardia and situs inversus with coronary artery disease poses unique challenges with respect to presentation and diagnosis. From a surgical point of view, the main decision-making revolves around the strategy of revascularization: the choice of right internal thoracic artery or the left internal thoracic artery for the left anterior descending artery anastomosis, the operating surgeon standing on the left or the right side of the operating table, and the choice of arterial or venous conduits. Health-care-associated bloodstream and urinary tract infections in a network of hospitals in India: a multicentre, hospital-based, prospective surveillance study.

Background: Health-care-associated infections (HAIs) cause significant morbidity and mortality globally, including in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). Networks of hospitals implementing standardised HAI surveillance can provide valuable data on HAI burden, and identify and monitor HAI prevention gaps. Hospitals in many LMICs use HAI case definitions developed for higher-resourced settings, which require human resources and laboratory and imaging tests that are often not available.

Functional Outcomes of Centralization of the Ulna as a Method of Reconstruction Following Resection of Campanacci Grade 3 Giant Cell Tumor of the Distal Radius.
