Pressure-dependent kinetic analysis of the NH potential energy surface.

The pressure-dependent reactions on the NH potential energy surface (PES) have been investigated using CCSD(T)-F12/aug-cc-pVTZ-F12//B2PLYP-D3/aug-cc-pVTZ. This study expands the NH PES beyond the previous literature by incorporating a newly identified isomer, NHN, along with additional bimolecular reaction channels associated with this isomer, namely NNH + H and HNN(S) + H. Rate coefficients for all relevant pressure-dependent reactions, including well-skipping pathways, are predicted using a combination of transition state theory and master equation simulations.

A Cortical Site that Encodes Vocal Expression and Reception.

Socially effective vocal communication requires brain regions that encode expressive and receptive aspects of vocal communication in a social context-dependent manner. Here, we combined a novel behavioral assay with microendoscopy to interrogate neuronal activity in the posterior insula (pIns) in socially interacting mice as they switched rapidly between states of vocal expression and reception. We found that distinct but spatially intermingled subsets of pIns neurons were active during vocal expression and reception.

However, population-based examination of indicators of sleep insufficiency and bedtime irregularity is limited. This investigation examined associations between ADHD, weeknight sleep insufficiency, and bedtime irregularity in a nationally-representative child sample, and indicators of these sleep outcomes in ADHD.

Exploring the role of casein kinase 1α splice variants across cancer cell lines.

Casein kinase 1α (CK1α) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that acts in various cellular processes affecting cell division and signal transduction. CK1α is present as multiple splice variants that are distinguished by the presence or absence of a long insert (L-insert) and a short carboxyl-terminal insert (S-insert). When overexpressed, zebrafish CK1α splice variants exhibit different biological properties, such as subcellular localization and catalytic activity.

Framing Long Covid through Patient activism in the United States: Patient, Provider, Academic, and Policymaker Views.

In 2020, when COVID-19 patients first recognized their complex and progressive symptoms, patient activists defined "Long Covid" on social media. While patient support groups are by no means new, the predominance of online support groups and those leveraging the power of social media has become a defining characteristic of Long Covid. In this article, we argue that naming Long Covid served as a powerful conduit of legitimacy for patient activists in media, medicine, and policy.

Mind your marker: the effect of common auxotrophic markers on complex traits in yeast.

Yeast cells are extensively used as a key model organism owing to their highly conserved genome, metabolic pathways, and cell biology processes. To assist in genetic engineering and analysis, laboratory yeast strains typically harbor auxotrophic selection markers. When uncompensated, auxotrophic markers cause significant phenotypic bias compared to prototrophic strains and have different combinatorial influences on the metabolic network.

Cannabidiol for Postoperative Pain Control After Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair Demonstrates No Deficits in Patient-Reported Outcomes Versus Placebo: 1-Year Follow-up of a Randomized Controlled Trial.

The robustness problem of emotion classification is one of the most basic approaches for improving the quality of emotion recognition systems. One of the two main branches of these approaches deals with the problem by extracting the features using manual engineering and the other is the famous artificial intelligence approach, which infers features of EEG data.

Effect of a Standardized Training Program to Enhance the Therapeutic Alliance in Patients with Low Back Pain: A Mixed-Methods Analytical Approach.

Background: Therapeutic alliance improves pain, disability, and quality of life outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a training protocol aimed at enhancing the therapeutic alliance in patients with chronic low back pain.

Methods: 19 physical therapists (DPT) and 16 student physical therapists (SPT) completed a therapeutic alliance training course with a quantitative questionnaire completed before and after the training along with a follow-up qualitative interview.

Septins modulate the autophagy response after nutrient starvation.

The pathways that induce macroautophagy (referred to as autophagy hereafter) in response to the stress of starvation are well conserved and essential under nutrient-limiting conditions. However, less is understood about the mechanisms that modulate the autophagy response. Here we present evidence that after induction of autophagy in budding yeast septin filaments rapidly assemble into discrete patches distributed along the cell cortex.

Maternal mental health: a key area for future research among women with congenital heart disease.

In this viewpoint, we respond to the recently published national priorities for research in congenital heart disease (CHD) among adults, established through the James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership, with specific attention to priority 3 (mental health) and priority 5 (maternal health). Our recent policy impact project explored how maternal mental health is currently addressed in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) services in the National Health Service, identified gaps and discussed possible ways forward. Our multidisciplinary discussion groups, which included women with lived experience of CHD and pregnancy, cardiology and obstetrics clinicians and medical anthropologists, found that while pregnancy and the postnatal period increase the mental health challenges faced by women with CHD, current services are not yet equipped to address them.

Benzodiazepine-induced anterograde amnesia: detrimental side effect to novel study tool.

Benzodiazepines (BZDs) are anxiolytic drugs that act on GABAa receptors and are used to treat anxiety disorders. However, these drugs come with the detrimental side effect of anterograde amnesia, or the inability to form new memories. In this review we discuss, behavioral paradigms, sex differences and hormonal influences affecting BZD-induced amnesia, molecular manipulations, including the knockout of GABAa receptor subunits, and regional studies utilizing lesion and microinjection techniques targeted to the hippocampus and amygdala.

Perceptions and Opinions on Cannabidiol in the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Community.

Background: Cannabidiol (CBD) is a known pain modulator that is garnering increased attention in the orthopaedic world. There may be a considerable knowledge gap among orthopaedic sports medicine providers and their perception of its therapeutic value.

Purpose: To (1) examine the knowledge and beliefs of sports medicine orthopaedic providers with respect to CBD, (2) deliver an educational component, and (3) elucidate potential barriers to its widespread application.

Improving cultural humility in physical therapy students: What is faculty's role?

Background: Clinician bias contributes to health disparities; therefore, educational standards and professional expectations incorporate cultural humility. Vague standards and numerous pedagogical methods make implementing an effective and uniform curriculum challenging. Classroom and clinical faculty's attitudes and behaviors are pivotal; however, evidence on roles beyond instruction is lacking.

Short Report on Effectiveness of an Autistic-Delivered Peer Support Program: Preliminary Results.

There is little research on the effectiveness of autistic peer-delivered services. This study examines early outcomes associated with the Community Autism Peer Specialist program (CAPS), which was created in partnership with autistic individuals and is delivered by autistic adults who have received training in the delivery of peer support services to enhance the community functioning of autistic youth and adults. A single group pre-test/post-test design was used to examine early outcomes in the areas of independent living needs, social functioning, service engagement, and quality of life.

This review details the role of dystrophin and the dystrophin associated proteins (DAPs) in the vascular smooth muscle. Dystrophin is most comprehensively studied in the skeletal muscle due to serious symptoms found related to the skeletal muscle of patients with muscular dystrophy. Mutations in the dystrophin gene, or DAPs genes, result in a wide range of muscular dystrophies.

The effect of D3 dissection on postoperative morbidity and early mortality in gastric cancer patients who underwent curative total gastrectomy.

Aim: The present study presents the factors associated with early complications and mortality in patients undergoing total gastrectomy.

Material And Method: The study included patients who underwent curative total gastrectomy for gastric adenocarcinoma between January 2001 and December 2016 in the General Surgery Department of the Çukurova University Medical Faculty Hospital. The patients were divided into D1, D2, and D3 groups depending on the lymph node dissection width, and the demographic and clinical data and mortality were compared.

Temporary Assistance For Needy Families: Sanctioning And Child Support Compliance Among Black Families In Illinois.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is a federal cash welfare program for low-income, working families with children in the United States that requires participation with child support enforcement, if one parent is noncustodial, to receive the cash benefit. Cash assistance has been linked to improved child health and academic achievement, but sanctions to benefits can increase health risks. Our community-engaged, mixed-methods research project sought to identify barriers to TANF among families with young children in Illinois.

Recent advances in sleep and depression.

Purpose Of Review: There is increasing interest in the connection between sleep disturbances and mood disorders. The purpose of this review is to summarize and evaluate current research on the role of sleep disturbance in the development of depression, as well as to describe recent advances in treatments that improve both sleep and depression symptoms.

Recent Findings: Relevant publications included in this review cover a wide range of topics related to sleep and depression.

Autistic-Delivered Peer Support: A Feasibility Study.

Peer support has been an undeveloped pathway for filling the service gap and to generate employment opportunities for autistic individuals. Peer supports have been deployed widely in mental health and among veterans and understanding the utility of this service modality among autistic individuals illuminates opportunities for research, policy, and practice. This study examined characteristics of participants in an autistic-delivered peer support program and reports on use of and satisfaction with the program.
