Volatile organic compounds, colloquially referred to as "terpenes", have been proposed to impact the therapeutic qualities that are traditionally ascribed to cannabis. However, the contribution of these terpenes in anxiety, at relevant levels and exposure methods common with cannabis use, is lacking empirical assessment. We tested the anxiolytic properties of two prominent cannabis terpenes, linalool and β-myrcene, in male and female mice using short duration vapor pulls to model human inhalation when combusting flower or vaping cannabis oil.

Background: Computational modeling indicated that pathological high shear stress (HSS; 100 dyn/cm) is generated in pulmonary arteries (PAs; 100-500 µm) in congenital heart defects causing PA hypertension (PAH) and in idiopathic PAH with occlusive vascular remodeling. Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is a feature of PAH. We hypothesize that HSS induces EndMT, contributing to the initiation and progression of PAH.

Here we conduct a study involving 12 individuals with retinal dystrophy, neurological impairment, and skeletal abnormalities, with special focus on GPATCH11, a lesser-known G-patch domain-containing protein, regulator of RNA metabolism. A thioarylation method is developed for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydrothiopheniums through an electrophilic-cyclization-cross-coupling mechanism, harnessing the gold(I)/(III) cycle of the recently developed MeDalPhosAuCl catalyst. Single-crystal X-ray crystal structural analysis of the dihydrothiophenium products characterized the antiaddition of the sulfur and Csp group to the alkyne and a preference for 5-endo dig cyclization. The dihydrothiophenium products are demonstrated as synthetic building blocks for stereodefined acyclic tetrasubstituted alkenes upon ring-opening reaction with amines.
