Objectives: Malnutrition and sarcopenia often co-exist in older patients. This condition, called co-MS, shows a worse prognosis than either condition alone but is often overlooked and undertreated. We aimed to clarify the prevalence of co-MS and its associated factors with a focus on prescription in a long-term nursing care facility in Japan.

The ACL reconstruction surgery replaces the damaged ACL with artificial one which is fixed to the bone tunnels opened by the surgeon. The outcome of the ACL reconstruction is strongly related to the placement of the bone tunnels, therefore, the optimization of tunnel drilling technique is an important factor to obtain satisfactory surgical results.

Methods: Eleven patients with a symptomatic articular cartilage defect of the knee were included in the study. They were randomized to receive BMSCs with MFX (cell-T group, n=7) or MFX alone (control group, n=4).
Intervertebral disc degeneration is ubiquitous among aging patients, and altered matrix homeostasis is one of the key features of this condition. Physicochemical stresses have a significant impact on matrix homeostasis as they lead to progressive degeneration and may be associated with spinal pain and dysfunction. Thus, it is important to understand the cellular and matrix characteristics of nucleus pulposus in response to these stresses, which include hydrostatic and osmotic pressures during alternate loading conditions.

Methods: Forty patients who underwent anatomic double-bundle hamstring ACL reconstruction using the TP (n: 20) or OI (n: 20) method with postoperative CT data available were included in the study. The analyzed parameters were as follows: location of the intraarticular tunnel aperture, tunnel length, bending angle (angulation of the graft at the intraarticular tunnel aperture), and long axis of the tunnel aperture/drill diameter ratio as a parameter of ellipsoidal geometry.
Background: Management guidelines for early-stage spontaneous osteonecrosis of the knee (SONK) have not been established. The purposes of this study were to review the outcome of conservative treatment for patients with early-stage SONK and to examine clinical factors affecting the prognosis.
Methods: Diagnosis of early-stage SONK was made based on the criteria consisting of specific clinical features including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings.
Aims: Navicular fracture is still challenging disorder to treat because there is a risk of nonunion, avascular necrosis and symptomatic osteoarthritis.
Patients Methods And Results: A 40-year-old woman with an ununited fracture of the tarsal navicular bone was treated with localized naviculocuneiform arthrodesis (arthrodesis of the navicular, the middle cuneiform, and the lateral cuneiform). Fusion with the navicular, the middle cuneiform, and the lateral cuneiform as well as union of fracture of the navicular was confirmed on the radiographs.
Administration of culture-expanded mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has been sought for regeneration of various damaged tissues/organs in clinical situations. Liquid suspensions of MSCs have either been directly injected into organs or generally infused. In this study, we focused on the viability and differentiation of MSCs after suspension in phosphate-buffered saline.
