Drought is one of the most severe and unpredictable abiotic stresses, occurring at any growth stage and affecting crop yields worldwide. Therefore, it is essential to develop drought tolerant varieties to ensure sustainable crop production in an ever-changing climate. High-throughput digital phenotyping technologies in tandem with robust screening methods enable precise and faster selection of genotypes for breeding.

Article Synopsis
  • T cells play a crucial role in ANCA-associated vasculitis and are predominant in ANCA glomerulonephritis (GN), prompting a study to analyze interstitial cell types based on ANCA type and renal function.
  • Researchers conducted immunohistochemistry on renal biopsies from patients with MPO and PR3 ANCA GN, finding that CD3, CD4, and FOXP3 cells were present but no differences in staining between the two ANCA types.
  • Results showed higher FOXP3 levels in patients with very low renal function, indicating a potential link between regulatory T cells and kidney health, warranting further investigation.*

Background: Kidney disease associated with cancer and anti-cancer therapies has been increasingly recognized in the field of onco-nephrology. In particular, drug-induced nephrotoxicity has important implications since most chemotherapeutic agents have a nephrotoxic potential. Also, standard creatinine clearance methods used for the measurement of kidney function have been questioned in cancer patients due to factors like low muscle mass and poor nutritional status.

The effectiveness of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) in quickly increasing normal hemoglobin concentration and replenishing body iron reserves up to 6-12 wk is known; however, its long-term effectiveness is unknown. In this study conducted in northern India during August 2018 to February 2019, 100 postpartum women within 48 h of delivery with a hemoglobin concentration between 5.0 and 9.

Decentralized response has been the hallmark of the National AIDS Control Programme in India. District-level HIV burden estimates quantifying the distribution of the epidemics are needed to enhance this decentralized response further to monitor the progress on prevention, testing, and treatment interventions. In this paper, we describe the methodology and results of district-level estimates using the Spectrum model piloted in 5 states of India under National AIDS Control Programme.

Salinity is a major contributing factor to the degradation of arable land, and reductions in crop growth and yield. To overcome these limitations, the breeding of crop varieties with improved salt tolerance is needed. This requires effective and high-throughput phenotyping to optimize germplasm enhancement.

Phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) are both essential macronutrients for maintaining plant growth and development. In rice (Oryza sativa L.), OsPHR3 is one of the four paralogs of PHR1, which acts as a central regulator of phosphate (Pi) homeostasis, as well being involved in N homeostasis.

Renal biopsy is currently the gold standard for diagnosing active renal vasculitis. In this pilot study, metabolomics analysis was used to investigate the differences in metabolic profiles between paired patients' serum and urine samples collected during both the active and the remission phase of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitides (AAV). Ten patients with AAV renal disease were included.

Thirty million pediatric visits (<18 years old) occur across 5,000 US emergency departments (EDs) each year, with most of these cases presenting to community EDs. Simulation-based training is an effective method to improve and sustain EDs' readiness to triage and stabilize critically ill infants and children, but large simulation centers are mostly concentrated at academic hospitals. The use of pediatric simulation-based training has been limited in the community ED setting due to the high cost of equipment and limited access to content experts in pediatric critical care.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the most common health issues around the globe and a major cause of disability among workers. In developing countries, most casting industries fall under Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs); SMEs lack modern equipment and often intensively rely on manual labor. As processes are mainly labor intensive, workers employed in the metal casting sector are often at risk of MSDs.

Background: CYP and GST gene families detoxify tobacco carcinogens and have been linked to the risk of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC).

Aim: Independent and combined effects of CYP and GST genetic variations and smoking on the risk of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and its sub-histological types.

Methods: We modelled an epistatic interaction via the effects of particular genotypes in two genes as OR (odds ratio), OR1, and OR2, a combination of both genotypes were characterized as OR.

Since its first detection in 1948, donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) has been employed for a myriad of indications in various medical specialties. It has had a far-reaching impact in solid organ transplantation, with the most widespread utilization in kidney transplantation for the surveillance and detection of allograft rejection. The purpose of this review is to track the arc of this revolutionary test-from origins to current use-along with examining challenges and future prospects though the lens of transplant nephrology.

Asthma is a respiratory disorder accounts for ~339 million cases per annum. The initial diagnosis of asthma relies on the symptomatic identification of characters, such as wheeze, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and cough. The presence of two or more of these symptoms may be considered as indicative of asthma.

Background: Pectus excavatum (PE) could be part of a genetic disorder, which then has implications regarding comorbidity, the surgical correction of PE, and reproductive choices. However, referral of a patient presenting with PE for genetic analysis is often delayed because additional crucial clinical signs may be subtle or even missed in syndromic patients. We reviewed the literature to inventory known genetic disorders associated with PE and create a standardized protocol for clinical evaluation.
