To determine whether serum alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity reflects hepatic damage of centrilobular region (zone 3), the rats were given either bromobenzene (BB) or allyl alcohol (AA) IP to produce the pericen tral or periportal necrosis respectively. After AA or BB serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activity showed no significant difference between the two groups. By contrast, serum ADH and glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH) activities were elevated preferentially in the BB treated rats.

The clinical aspects of 64 patients with superficial bladder cancer (Ta, T1, T2 according to the TNM classification, International Union against Cancer or Stage O, A, B1 according to Marshall) admitted to the Tsukuba University Hospital were analyzed retrospectively. Treatment of these patients was mainly by transurethral surgery. The overall 10-year survival rate was 73%.

The production of 5-S-cysteinyldopa by a newly established melanoma cell line GAK is reported. The cell line was derived from a metastatic inguinal lymph node of vulvar malignant melanoma. The cell line grew well without interruption for over 4 years, GAK cells were proved to have melanin granules and tyrosinase activity in their cytoplasma by Masson's staining and dopa reaction, respectively.

A 51-yr-old Japanese female patient with monoclonal IgM gammopathy with rheumatoid factor activity was admitted because of pneumococcal bacteremia. About 2 wk after admission, her rheumatoid factor activity became undetectable by RAHA test and radioimmunoassay, subsequent to the initial marked elevation. The suppressive capacity of the patient's IgG fraction on the rheumatoid activity of her monoclonal IgM on January 11 was determined.

During the last 66 months, 482 urinary cytologic examinations were performed on 160 inpatients suspected of having genitourinary cancer at our University Hospital.
