Background: Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is still associated with death and sequelae including cerebral palsy and intellectual disability despite induced hypothermia. Biomarkers, as early predictive indicators of adverse outcomes, are lacking.

Aims: To investigate whether post-rewarming cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-neuro-specific enolase (NSE) levels after hypothermia are associated with neurodevelopmental outcomes at age six years, alone or when combined with amplitude-integrated electroencephalography (aEEG) and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as neuroimaging and neurophysiological indicators, respectively.

The efficacy and safety of lenvatinib plus pembrolizumab in vulnerable patients with metastatic or recurrent endometrial cancer: a single institution experience.

Background: Effective management with second-line therapy with the lenvatinib + pembrolizumab regimen for patients with advanced endometrial cancer is necessary.

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled patients with endometrial cancer treated with the lenvatinib + pembrolizumab regimen. We evaluated progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), safety for patients non-eligible for the KEYNOTE775 trial, aged ≥65 years, or with ECOG performance status 1-2.

Chemotactic Activity of Products of Elizabethkingia anophelis Derived from Aedes albopictus against RAW264 Murine Macrophage Cell Line.

Dengue viruses enter the dermal macrophages derived from other tissues following a bite from an infected mosquito. We examined the chemotactic activity of factors derived from the dengue vector mosquito Aedes albopictus on a RAW264 murine macrophage cell line. We found that Elizabethkingia anophelis isolated from the mosquitoes exhibits migration-inducing activity in RAW264 cells.

Usefulness of urine dipstick test in the management of adverse events associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Purpose: The usefulness of urine dipstick tests (UDTs) in patients with diabetes has been reported. The aim of the present study was to investigate the utility of self-performed UDTs and patient diaries in the management of impaired glucose tolerance, one of the adverse events of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).

Methods: Patients receiving ICIs underwent self-checks with UDTs twice a week for up to 6 months.

Preoperative diagnosis of cervical cystic lesions using magnetic resonance imaging: a retrospective study.

Background: We conducted this study to clarify the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics of lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia (LEGH) and Nabothian cysts.

Methods: This study included 48 patients who underwent hysterectomy at our institution between 2016 and 2020 for suspected LEGH. Histopathological studies confirmed the presence of 25 Nabothian cysts and 23 cases of LEGH.

Rapid deterioration of steatotic liver disease due to portal vein stenosis after pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Steatotic liver disease after pancreatoduodenectomy occurs due to various factors, such as exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, impaired intestinal absorption, and malnutrition. The mechanism of steatogenesis differs to that of conventional steatotic liver disease associated with obesity and insulin resistance. We experienced a rare case of rapidly progressive steatotic liver disease accompanied by portal vein stenosis in the early postoperative period after subtotal stomach-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy for distal cholangiocarcinoma.

Translational regulation enhances distinction of cell types in the nervous system.

Multicellular organisms are composed of specialized cell types with distinct proteomes. While recent advances in single-cell transcriptome analyses have revealed differential expression of mRNAs, cellular diversity in translational profiles remains underinvestigated. By performing RNA-seq and Ribo-seq in genetically defined cells in the brain, we here revealed substantial post-transcriptional regulations that augment the cell-type distinctions at the level of protein expression.

Therapeutic potentials of nonpeptidic V2R agonists for partial cNDI-causing V2R mutants.

Loss-of-function mutations in the type 2 vasopressin receptor (V2R) are a major cause of congenital nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (cNDI). In the context of partial cNDI, the response to desmopressin (dDAVP) is partially, but not entirely, diminished. For those with the partial cNDI, restoration of V2R function would offer a prospective therapeutic approach.

Gastric cancer after laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding: A case report.

Tracing Photoinduced Hydrogen Migration in Alcohol Dications from Time-Resolved Molecular-Frame Photoelectron Angular Distributions.

The recent implementation of attosecond and few-femtosecond X-ray pump/X-ray probe schemes in large-scale free-electron laser facilities has opened the way to visualize fast nuclear dynamics in molecules with unprecedented temporal and spatial resolution. Here, we present the results of theoretical calculations showing how polarization-averaged molecular-frame photoelectron angular distributions (PA-MFPADs) can be used to visualize the dynamics of hydrogen migration in methanol, ethanol, propanol, and isopropyl alcohol dications generated by X-ray irradiation of the corresponding neutral species. We show that changes in the PA-MFPADs with the pump-probe delay as a result of intramolecular photoelectron diffraction carry information on the dynamics of hydrogen migration in real space.

Identification of genes involved in enhanced membrane vesicle formation in biofilms: surface sensing facilitates vesiculation.

Membrane vesicles (MVs) are small spherical structures (20-400 nm) produced by most bacteria and have important biological functions including toxin delivery, signal transfer, biofilm formation, and immunomodulation of the host. Although MV formation is enhanced in biofilms of a wide range of bacterial species, the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. An opportunistic pathogen, , causes chronic infections that can be difficult to treat due to biofilm formation.

[Efficacy of Distal Perfusion During Frozen Elephant Trunk Procedure:Continuous Perfusion Versus Intermittent Perfusion].

Purpose: To compare the effectiveness of continuous distal perfusion( CDP) with that of intermittent distal perfusion( IDP) during frozen elephant trunk( FET) procedures.

Methods: There were 54 patients in the CDP group and 15 patients in the IDP group. There were no significant differences in preoperative characteristics between the two groups, but dissection was more common in the IDP group than in the CDP group, and the maximum aneurysmal diameter was larger in the CDP group than in the IDP group.

Local Treatment Efficacy for Single-Area Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Unknown Primary Site.

The prognosis for cancer of unknown primary site (CUP) is poor, and squamous cell carcinoma of the unknown primary site (SCCUP) is a rare histological type. CUP is often treated with aggressive multimodal treatments, while the treatment of single-area localized CUP remains controversial. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients with CUP.
