Performance of an AI-powered visualization software platform for precision surgery in breast cancer patients.

Surgery remains the primary treatment modality in the management of early-stage invasive breast cancer. Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered visualization platforms offer the compelling potential to aid surgeons in evaluating the tumor's location and morphology within the breast and accordingly optimize their surgical approach. We sought to validate an AI platform that employs dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) to render three-dimensional (3D) representations of the tumor and 5 additional chest tissues, offering clear visualizations as well as functionalities for quantifying tumor morphology, tumor-to-landmark structure distances, excision volumes, and approximate surgical margins.

However, disruptions to these rhythms, particularly due to trans-meridian travel and shift work, can lead to significant health issues, including jet lag, metabolic imbalances, and neuropsychiatric disorders. In this systematic review, conducted in line with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Metanalysis (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines, we explore the effectiveness of various interventions aimed at realigning circadian rhythms disrupted by such factors.

Assessment of Complications and Length of Hospital Stay Associated With Surgical Emergencies in Patients With Concurrent COVID-19 Infection.

The delivery of surgical services was profoundly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the postponement of elective surgeries and a shift in focus to essential emergency procedures. Our study aimed to assess the impact of concurrent COVID-19 infection on complications, hospital stay, and recovery following emergency surgery. A retrospective matched cohort study was conducted between July 2020 and February 2022 at a tertiary care hospital in India.

Metagenomic analysis of pathogenic bacteria and virulence factor genes in coastal sediments from highly urbanized cities of India.

A metagenomic approach was employed to investigate the diversity and distribution of Virulence Factors Genes (VFGs) and Pathogenic Bacteria (PB) in sediment samples collected from highly urbanized cities along the Indian coastline. Among the study locations, Mumbai, Veraval and Paradeep showed a higher abundance of PB, with Vibrio and Pseudomonas as dominant at the genus level, and Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa at the species level. In total, 295 VFGs were detected across all sediment samples, of which 40 VFGs showed a similarity of ≥90 % with the Virulence Database (VFDB) and were focused in this study.

Background: Sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) prevent heart failure (HF) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) but prescription rates are low. The effect of an electronic health record (EHR) alert notifying providers of patients' estimated risk of developing HF on SGTL2i prescriptions is unknown.

Methods: This was a pragmatic, randomized clinical trial that compared an EHR alert and usual care among patients with T2DM and no history of HF or SGLT2i use at a single center.

Strengthening facility-based integrated emergency care services for time sensitive emergencies at all levels of healthcare in India: An implementation research study protocol.

Background: The healthcare system in India is tiered and has primary, secondary and tertiary levels of facilities depending on the complexity and severity of health challenges at these facilities. Evidence suggests that emergency services in the country is fragmented. This study aims to identify the barriers and facilitators of emergency care delivery for patients with time-sensitive conditions, and develop and implement a contextually relevant model, and measure its impact using implementation research outcomes.

Background: Glaucoma is the leading cause of permanent blindness. Primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) is diagnosed only after the onset of symptoms and can result in irreversible blindness despite the standard intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction therapy. Avascular necrosis of femoral head (AVNFH) is a debilitating disease of the young, affecting the quality of life significantly and eventually leading to total hip replacement surgery. The disease is diagnosed clinico-radiologically and MRI is the investigation of choice to diagnose the early stages of the disease. There is neither an early biomarker for detection nor is there a permanent cure for the disease and most of the patients are managed with various combinations of surgical and medical management protocols.

Isolated Psychiatric Symptoms in Children With Anti-N-Methyl-d Aspartate Receptor Encephalitis.

Background: Isolated psychiatric symptoms can be the initial symptom of pediatric anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor autoimmune encephalitis (pNMDARE). Here we report on the prevalence of isolated psychiatric symptoms in pNMDARE. Inflammatory disorders of the central nervous system (CNS) include a wide spectrum of autoimmune, autoinflammatory, and paraneoplastic diseases. While many affected patients require acute hospital admission, a subset may present with severe neurological symptoms requiring intensive care unit (ICU) escalation due to disordered consciousness, respiratory failure, status epilepticus, intracranial hypertension, and/or severe autonomic dysregulation.

Specific Gravity Improves Identification of Clinically Significant Quantitative Proteinuria from the Dipstick Urinalysis.

Key Points: Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio and urine protein-to-creatinine ratio are frequently obtained and represent possible tools for screening for proteinuria and thus early CKD. Adding specific gravity to dipstick proteinuria improves the ability to screen patients with clinically significant proteinuria and can be used to identify patients with early CKD.

Background: CKD is often underdiagnosed during early stages when GFR is preserved because of underutilization of testing for quantitative urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) or urine protein-to-creatinine ratio (UPCR).

Introduction: Neural crest cells (NCCs) are multipotent and are attributed to the combination of complex multimodal gene regulatory mechanisms. Cardiac neural crest (CNC) cells, originating from the dorsal neural tube, are pivotal architects of the cardio-neuro-vascular domain, which orchestrates the embryogenesis of critical cardiac and vascular structures. Remarkably, while the scientific community compiled a comprehensive inventory of neural crest derivatives by the early 1980s, our understanding of the CNC's role in various cardiovascular disease processes still needs to be explored.

Background: Individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) commonly experience fatigue, discomfort, sleep problems, anxiety, and reduced quality of life. Studies have shown that foot reflexology can help relieve these symptoms. The objective of this current study is to systematically review the effects of foot reflexology on patients with MS.
