Rab proteins are small molecular weight GTPases that control vesicular traffic in eukaryotic cells. A subset of Rab proteins, the Rab3 proteins are thought to play an important role in regulated exocytosis of vesicles. During the large-scale sequencing analysis of a human fetal brain cDNA library, we isolated a cDNA clone encoding a novel Rab protein, which showed 99% identity with previously isolated bovine Rab3C at the amino acid level It contained four conserved motifs characteristic of the Rab3 family.

Purpose: Microarray analysis on a genomic scale was used to profile changes in gene expression accompanying hepatocellular carcinoma.

Methods: Gene expression profiles of liver tissues from twelve hepatocellular carcinoma samples relative to the gene expression profile of the normal liver tissue were analyzed using 4096 chips and 12800 chips. The results of microarray experiments were verified by the Northern blot technique.

A novel human galectin cDNA (PPL13) was isolated by screening a human 18-week fetal brain library. The mRNA was predominantly expressed in placenta, while the expression of it was not or barely detectable in heart, brain, lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney, and pancreas by Northern blot. COS-7 cells transfected with cDNA encoding human PPL13 sequestered the protein in nuclei although it lacked any known nuclear localization signal.

It was found that Negishi coupling between alpha-alkyl(aryl)thio vinyl zinc chloride and alpha-bromo vinyl ether or Negishi coupling between alpha-bromo vinyl sulfide and alpha-alkoxy vinyl zinc chloride provided the best yield and stereoselectivity.

Here we report the cloning of two splice variants of a novel gene named ARHGAP12 (access number), which has an ORF of 2541bp. The human NUDT9 gene has been mapped to 4q22 and shown to give rise to two alternatively spliced mRNAs, NUDT9alpha and NUDT9beta, that encode a member of the Nudix hydrolase family. Both transcripts were readily detected in heart and skeletal muscle and also in liver, kidney and pancreas. NUDT9alpha protein was expressed in Escherichia coli and shown specifically to hydrolyse ADP-ribose and IDP-ribose to the corresponding nucleoside 5'-monophosphates and ribose 5-phosphate.
