To examine the dose-response effect of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) for college students with major depressive disorder (MDD), a randomized control trial with MBCT and a wait-list (WL) group was performed. All participants were invited to self-administer a set of questionnaires at baseline, mid-intervention (4th week), and post-intervention (8th week) by the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS). The serum levels of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, BDNF were detected at baseline and post-intervention.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) has been associated not only with an increased vulnerability for stress-related psychiatric disorders but also with distinct alterations of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis function and the immune system. The aim of this study is to examine differences in the HPA axis between major depressive disorder (MDD) patients with and without ACEs, and to explore differences in efficacy and HPA changes after long term antidepressant treatment between these two groups. A cohort of 803 patients with MDD were recruited.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate how different NRG1 gene types affect cognitive performance and clinical symptoms in Chinese Han patients with first-episode schizophrenia during a 12-week risperidone treatment.
  • A total of 221 schizophrenia patients were studied, with 177 untreated individuals evaluated using various scales and genotyping for five NRG1 polymorphisms before and after treatment.
  • Results indicated significant cognitive improvement post-treatment, but only two specific NRG1 variants (rs3924999 and rs35753505) showed a notable connection to changes in attention and reasoning abilities, suggesting a link between genetics and treatment response.

Introduction: Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) may be effective for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD); however, the neural mechanism is poorly understood. In this study, we examined the potential neural mechanisms through which MBCT may reduce anxiety in patients with mild-to-moderate GAD.

Methods: Eight weekly group MBCT sessions (2 h each) were conducted with 32 GAD patients.

There are few studies that explore simultaneously the relationship of neuroendocrine hormones of the HPA, HPT and HPG axes with major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD). The aim of this study is to examine the relationship of neuroendocrine pathways with affective disorders by comparing the differences in measures of neuroendocrine function between untreated first episode patients with MDD and BD. A cohort of 679 MDD and 83 BD patients was recruited.

Objective: As there is growing evidence outlining varying degrees of social, economic and cultural changes among minority groups in China, there was a need to undertake research to determine whether modernization and urbanization of China has had an impact on the mental health of individuals from minority groups. In 1979, the Jino ethnic minority group was the last minority group to be designated a minority by the Chinese Central Government. As a direct result of the Chinese Government intervention, the Jino society began transitioning from a traditional rural lifestyle existence to that of a more modern urban lifestyle.

Objective: To compare resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) findings of children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and normal children, and to investigate the possible mechanism of brain dysfunction in children with ADHD.

Methods: Resting-state fMRI was performed on 18 children who met the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for ADHD (ADHD group) and 18 normal children (control group) matched for age, sex, IQ, degree of education and handedness. The two groups were compared in terms of amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo).

Significant association of the FZD3 gene with schizophrenia in Chinese Han population had been reported previously, however, this finding could not be confirmed in subsequent studies investigating other populations. To understand the role of the FZD3 gene in schizophrenia further, here we attempted to replicate this finding in Chinese Va schizophrenic subjects which is one of the ethnic minorities in China. Five single nucleotide polymorphisms in the FZD3 gene had been genotyped by the polymerase chain reaction-based restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis based on the previous schizophrenic studies in 81 Va schizophrenic patients and 210 Va healthy subjects.

Several studies have reported associations between catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene Val158Met polymorphism and P300 event-related potentials in schizophrenic patients. But there has been no research to study the association between the P300 component and the Val158Met polymorphism in Chinese Han schizophrenia patients. Therefore, the present article was aimed at investigating the relationship of the Val158Met polymorphism with P300 in Chinese schizophrenic patients.
