Visual impairment affects many children and can lead to blindness if untreated. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has led to various restrictions and other challenges accessing in-person medical care, including essential pediatric eye care. The aim of this article was to determine and quantify the effect that pandemics have on access to pediatric eye care.

Introduction The dental team play a vital role in ensuring that vulnerable children are followed up and suspected safeguarding concerns are shared, which includes recognising the importance of missed dental appointments. Concerns are less likely to be missed when there are robust pathways in place. This paper aims to discuss the importance of a was not brought (WNB) pathway for children who miss dental appointments and to offer advice on its implementation in practice.

The impact of adoption of an electronic health record on emergency physician work: A time motion study.

Objective: We assessed the impact of the transition from a primarily paper-based electronic health record (EHR) to a comprehensive EHR on emergency physician work tasks and efficiency in an academic emergency department (ED).

Methods: We conducted a time motion study of emergency physicians on shift in our ED. Fifteen emergency physicians were directly observed for two 4-hour sessions prior to EHR implementation, during go live, and then during post-implementation.

Cannabis Use for Restless Legs Syndrome and Uremic Pruritus in in patients treated with maintenance dialysis: A Survey.

Background: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) and uremic pruritus reduce the quality of life in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and current treatments are often insufficient. There is an increasing interest in using cannabinoids for symptom management, and preliminary evidence suggests cannabinoids may help alleviate RLS and pruritus.

Objectives: (1) To assess the frequency and severity of RLS and pruritus in our ESKD population with the current treatment options, (2) to estimate patient use of cannabinoids for these symptoms, and (3) to determine interest in participating in future trials to treat RLS and/or pruritus.

Improving pain management for children having dental extractions under general anaesthesia.

Children provided with general anaesthesia for dental extractions at East Surrey Hospital were audited to determine the percentage of children who were prescribed adequate pain management in accordance with guidance published by the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland. Three audit cycles were completed. Data were collected retrospectively through case note review.

Teledentistry from a patient perspective during the coronavirus pandemic.

Objective Evaluation of patient experience when utilising teledentistry during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.Methods We designed a ten-item, five-point Likert-scale questionnaire assessing: 1) patient satisfaction; 2) ease of use; 3) the effectiveness including increasing access to clinical services; 4) reliability of the teledentistry system; and 5) usefulness for patients. Fifty-two patients completed the survey and data was analysed.

A neurogenic factor in faecal incontinence in the elderly.

Idiopathic faecal incontinence in middle-aged people has been found to be commonly associated with neurogenic damage to the anal sphincter musculature. Because neurogenic atrophy of skeletal muscle is a common feature of ageing, we have investigated the possibility that faecal incontinence in elderly people might be due to age-related denervation of the anal sphincter musculature. The technique of single fibre electromyography was used to measure the motor unit fibre density in the external and sphincter muscle in ten patients aged 78 to 99 years.
