Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and biliary tract cancers (BTC) pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and multiphase computed tomography (CT) have been the preferred imaging modalities for diagnosis, staging, and surveillance of patients with these malignancies. The best clinical outcomes depend on the appropriate selection of treatment options from the tools available in neo-adjuvant therapy, surgical resection, locoregional therapy, liver transplantation, and adjuvant therapy.

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) occur in 30% to 50% of patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. Clinical presentations vary from asymptomatic disease to complications resulting from the right to left shunting of blood through the PAVM such as paradoxical stroke, brain abscesses, hypoxemia, and cardiac failure. Radiology plays an important role both in the diagnosis and treatment of PAVM.

Comprised of well-known viruses like human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis C virus, and hepatitis B virus, the virome also includes many other eukaryotic viruses and phages whose medical significance, lifecycle, epidemiology, and impact on human health are less well known and thus regarded as commensals. This review synthesizes available information for the so-called commensal virome members that circulate in the blood of humans considering their restriction to and interaction with the human host, their natural history, and their impact on human health and physiology.

A 50-year-old man was diagnosed with radioiodine-refractory PTC pulmonary metastasis post prior total thyroidectomy and radioiodine ablation. F-FDG PET/CT metabolic parameters are valuable in predicting treatment response and survival. Metabolic response on F-FDG PET/CT can predict preoperative pathologic response to neoadjuvant therapy in patients with pancreatic cancer and determine prognosis.

Patients with thoracoabdominal aortic pathology without intervention should be monitored carefully for changes in aortic size or morphology that could portend rupture or other complication. Patients who are post endovascular or open surgical aortic repair should undergo follow-up imaging to evaluate for complications, endoleak, or recurrent pathology.

Somatostatin receptor (SSTR) expression by NETs allows SSTR imaging using 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/computed tomography (CT) and treatment with octreotide or SSTR-targeted peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT). 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT is indicated for localization of the primary tumor in select cases, staging patients with known NET, and selecting patients for PRRT.

We investigated the aetiology and outcomes of acute febrile illness in adults presenting to hospital using a standardized testing algorithm of available assays in at Arua and Mubende tertiary care hospitals in Uganda.

Background: It is important to maintain the safety of blood products by avoiding the transfusion of units with known and novel viral pathogens. It is unknown whether COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) may contain pathogenic viruses (either newly acquired or reactivated) that are not routinely screened for by blood centers.
Methods: The DNA virome was characterized in potential CCP donors (n = 30) using viral genome specific PCR primers to identify DNA plasma virome members of the Herpesviridae [Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), human herpesvirus 6A/B, human herpesvirus 7] and Anelloviridae [Torque teno viruses (TTV), Torque teno mini viruses (TTMV), and Torque teno midi viruses (TTMDV)] families.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality in the United States. PET with fluorodeoxyglucose F 18 (F FDG-PET)/computed tomography is the standard of care and an integral part of staging and treatment response assessment in patients with laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers. Knowledge of cross-sectional laryngeal and hypopharyngeal anatomy, expected patterns of tumor spread, and awareness of physiologic FDG uptake in head and neck structures is essential for accurate TNM staging.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: Given the higher rates of tobacco use along with increased mortality specific to lung cancer in rural settings, low-dose CT (LDCT)-based lung cancer screening could be particularly beneficial to such populations. However, limited radiology facilities and increased geographical distance, combined with lower income and education along with reduced patient engagement, present heightened barriers to screening initiation and adherence.
Methods: In collaboration with community leaders and stakeholders, we developed and implemented a community-based lung cancer screening program, including telephone-based navigation and tobacco cessation counseling support, serving 18 North Texas counties.
A 29-year-old male with a history of Hodgkin's lymphoma presented for evaluation of response to chemotherapy with positron emission tomography/computed tomography using fluorine-18-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (F-FDG PET/CT). Follow-up F-FDG PET/CT imaging demonstrated resolution of previously noted FDG avid axillary lymphadenopathy. However, multiple opacities with increased FDG uptake were noted in the lungs bilaterally, which were suspicious for pulmonary infection, including viral pneumonia.

We investigate if PWID who acquire non-pathogenic bloodborne viruses like anelloviruses and pegiviruses might be at greater risk of acquiring a bloodborne pathogen. PWID who later acquire HCV accumulate more non-pathogenic viruses in plasma than matched controls who do not acquire HCV infection.
