The authors describe clinicoimmunological features of bronchial asthma caused by Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus. This type of asthma usually afflicts young persons, its course is mild. The main symptoms are dyspnea, rhinitis and conjunctivitis.

The use of the method of electrophoretic mobility measurement has made it possible to demonstrate that Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae allergens are species-specific and possess common antigenic properties. The allergenic properties of D. pteronyssinus allergens are more pronounced than those of D.

The allergenic activities of the laboratory batches of D. farinae allergens have been studied by the methods of indirect mast-cell degranulation, neuroglial cytocrit, electrophoretic mobility changes. D.

Paper is the second part of the literature review on house dust mites (including 1985). It deals with the diagnosis of the dust mite allergy, the nature of the mite allergens, distribution and population density of the mites in various premises, seasonal population dynamics and population age structure of the dermatophagoid mites, life cycle and breeding of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and D. farinae on different food substrates.

The influence of tomicide and biopolymers obtained from the cell wall of Streptococcus sp. TOM-1606 on the degranulation of mast cells was studied. Among the biopolymers of the streptococcal cell-wall polysaccharide was shown to induce the highest destruction of mast cells (14.

Materials on the study of Daphnia allergens are presented. Daphnia allergens have been shown to possess considerable sensitizing properties. The optimum method for the preparation of the allergen has been selected.

The acarological+ study of dust samples from the homes of allergic patients and normal persons in Moscow mite antigens were detected, respectively, in 66.7% and 38.1% of homes.

The literary data on the study of the house-dust mites during the period from 1864 till 1983 are given. The methods of the house dust samples collection in flats and the methods of the house-dust mites isolation from the house dust are evaluated. The house-dust mites fauna including more than 130 species is described.

The study of 27 allergens, carried out with the use of the standard technique of chloramine iodination by Hunter's method, revealed that the biological properties of the allergens were not essentially related to their capacity for binding 125I, this capacity being, on the whole, low. The blood sera of patients with allergic diseases were found to be no different from the blood sera of healthy persons in their capacity for binding 125I.

The composition of cereal allergens was studied and the specific activity of the fractions isolated from these allergens was determined. Four protein fractions were obtained from wheat flour by the method of salting out. None of the fractions thus obtained exceeded the whole wheat allergen in specific activity as determined in the indirect mast-cell degranulation (IMCD) test.

The data derived in the study of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus by microscopic and immunological assays (double radial immunodiffusion in 2 modifications and indirect rat mast cell degranulation) are provided. The immunochemical assays permitting the detection of mites in 93.3% of cases have been shown to compare very favourably with the microscopic techniques that make it possible to detect mites only in 41.

The specific activity of different kinds of allergens prepared from dermatophagoid mites has been studied by the method of the indirect mast cell degranulation and the method of changing the volume of cerebral glial cells in patients with the atopic form of bronchial asthma. In cases of sensitization to mites the presence of reagin and precipitin antibodies has been revealed. Allergens prepared from the mite medium and directly from mites have been found to possess almost the same specific activity.

B. pertussis protein fraction obtained by precipitation with trichloroacetic acid (TCA) stimulated the development of clinically and histologically pronounced experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) in guinea pigs when introduced together with a heterologous cerebral antigen, the two compounds forming an encephalitogenic mixture. The adjuvant activity of the TCA-precipitated fraction depended on its dose.

The sensitization of guinea-pigs with the mixture of meningococci and heterologous-cerebral tissue commonly induces the development of the typical clinical and pathomorphological picture of allergic encephalomyelitis. Unlike Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other acid-resistant bacterial and much like Bordetella pertussis, meningococci are capable of inducing allergic encephalomyelitis when introduced in mixture with oil without cerebral tissue. The vaccinal strain induces allergic encephalomyelitis with a more moderate course of the disease.

Results of examining the blood serum of 90 patients with disseminated sclerosis, 94 patients with other nervous diseases, and 20 healthy subjects using the glia migration inhibition test are presented. It is shown that the index of the glia migration inhibition (IGMI) gets higher during exacerbation of the disseminated sclerosis and drops in cases of relative stabilization of the clinical manifestations and remission. In the course of treatment with immunodepressants, such as, prednisolone (alone, or in combination with cyclophosphan) and antilymphocytic immunoglobulin, the IGMI falls down.

The results of examining the blood serum of 75 children aged up to 2 years suffering from infantile cerebral paralysis of various gravity, as well as the results of analogous examinations of 21 healthy children are presented. Use was made of the immunological tests of glia migration inhibition, and of complement fixation. It was shown that the results of both tests characterized the gravity of the disease.

The laboratory cultivation of house dust mites (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus) was shown to yield the maximum amount of the mites in 10--12 weeks. Hair accumulated in electric razors and house dust mixed with hair from electric razors should be considered the most promising medium for their cultivation. Scarification tests with D.

Stable leukocytosis and lymphocytosis were observed in the peripheral blood of guinea pigs from the 14th day after their sensitization with B. pertussis oil suspension. A shift to the left occurred in the leukocytic count.

The changes in the glial cell reactivity depended on the phase and severity of the pathological process in the experimental allergic encephalomyelitis induced in guinea pigs by injection of Mycobacteria tuberculosis in a mixture of arlacel and vaselin. These reactivity changes measured by the method of inhibition of the glial cell migration in the tissue culture was specific of the nervous tissue antigens. The same changes in the reactivity could be induced in the tissue culture of the glial cells from the intact animals by the addition of sera or the lymph node cells from the actively sensitized guinea pigs.
