Introduction: Scalp biopsy is a standard method for the definitive diagnosis of alopecia. The hair count parameters of each scalp area remain unclear. The currently approved treatment for female pattern hair loss (FPHL) includes topical minoxidil administration; however, this treatment fails to achieve hair regrowth in some patients. Evaluation of Hair Density and Hair Diameter in the Adult Thai Population Using Quantitative Trichoscopic Analysis.

The data of hair density and hair diameter in the Asian population, especially in Thais, are limited. We aimed to evaluate hair density and hair diameter of members of the Thai population at different scalp sites and to determine the effect of sex and aging as well as to compare the results with those in groups of other ethnicities. Healthy Thais whose hair examination findings were normal were evaluated.

A Case Report of Idiopathic Follicular Hyperkeratotic Spicules and Literature Review.

Follicular hyperkeratotic spicules is a rare skin disorder that is usually associated with multiple myeloma. The condition typically presents with tiny hyperkeratotic spicules in follicular distribution and predominantly on the face. To our knowledge, there has been one reported case of this condition without underlying disease.

Frontal fibrosing alopecia in Asians: a retrospective clinical study.

Background: Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) is a distinctive form of primary lymphocytic cicatricial alopecia and predominantly occurs in postmenopausal women. The condition is increasing in prevalence worldwide. However, there is a paucity of information regarding FFA in Asians because of a lack of published literature.

Minoxidil and its use in hair disorders: a review.

Minoxidil was first introduced as an antihypertensive medication and the discovery of its common adverse event, hypertrichosis, led to the development of a topical formulation for promoting hair growth. To date, topical minoxidil is the mainstay treatment for androgenetic alopecia and is used as an off-label treatment for other hair loss conditions. Despite its widespread application, the exact mechanism of action of minoxidil is still not fully understood.

Assessing Biophysical and Physiological Profiles of Scalp Seborrheic Dermatitis in the Thai Population.

Background: Scalp seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a common and chronic inflammatory skin disease which tends to recur over time. By measuring biophysical properties of the stratum corneum, many studies report abnormal biophysical profiles and their association in various dermatologic diseases. The aim of the study is to analyze the biophysical properties and skin barrier defects of scalp SD compared to healthy controls.

A Case of Loose Anagen Hair Syndrome in a Southeast Asian Boy.

Loose anagen hair syndrome is an uncommon hair disorder, particularly in non-Caucasian children. We report the case of a 13-year-old Thai boy who presented with a single patch of hair thinning on the frontal scalp with excessive shedding, and the hairs did not grow long. Microscopic examination showed naked anagen bulbs with ruffling of the cuticle, which is compatible with loose anagen hair syndrome.

Clear cell papulosis: Dermatoscopic findings and literature review.

Clear cell papulosis is a rare skin condition that predominantly develops in patients of Asian background during their early childhood. We present a new case of clear cell papulosis of a 1-year-old Thai girl presented with multiple hypopigmented macules and papules on the lower abdomen and pubic area for 3 months and also review the previous 41 cases published in the literature since 1987. Herein, for the first time, we report the dermatoscopic features of clear cell papulosis that represents as depigmented homogenous structureless lesions.

Candidate cancer-targeting agents identified by expression-profiling arrays.

Background: One particularly promising component of personalized medicine in cancer treatment is targeted therapy, which aims to maximize therapeutic efficacy while minimizing toxicity. However, the number of approved targeted agents remains limited. Expression microarray data for different types of cancer are resources to identify genes that were upregulated.
