Introduction: A technical qualification system was established by the Japanese Society of Endoscopic Surgery in 2004, and its effectiveness in low anterior resection (LAR) has been reported. We herein performed a subgroup analysis of the effectiveness of the participation of technically qualified surgeons in laparoscopy-assisted high anterior resection (HAR), a procedure used for the technical qualification of surgeons.
Methods: The EnSSURE study enrolled 3188 patients who underwent laparoscopic rectal resection for rectal cancer between January 2014 and December 2016 at 56 Japanese hospitals.
Background: While advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are primarily treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), acquired resistance from specific mutations in KIT or PDGFRA frequently occurs. We aimed to assess the utility of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) as a modality of therapeutic decision-making in advanced GIST.
Methods: We conducted a pooled analysis of SCRUM-Japan studies for advanced GIST patients.
Accumulation of anthocyanin provides pigmentation in plant tissues. In petunia, gene expression profiles that lead to anthocyanin production have been extensively characterized in terms of pigmentation in flower petals. Anthers are also pigmented, but the transcriptional control of the genes for anthocyanin biosynthesis in anthers has not been fully characterized.

Simplification of the antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimen for PLWH has become crucial. The real-world treatment patterns and medication persistence of the 2-drug single-tablet regimen (STR), dolutegravir/lamivudine (DTG/3TC), compared to bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/FTC/TAF) prescribed were investigated.

Four microbial lipases from Rhizopus japonicus, Burkholderia cepacia, Rhizomucor miehei, and Candida antarctica (fraction B) were used to study the effect of the carbon chain length of saturated fatty acid substrates on the esterification activity with methanol in n-hexane. Hydration-aggregation pretreatment had an activation effect on all lipases used, and different chain length dependencies of esterification activity for lipases from different origins were demonstrated.

In this case report, a 61-year-old man with an ectopic pancreas within the jejunal mesentery for over 20 years developed chronic pancreatitis that progressed to acute exacerbation. Our computed tomography (CT) performed for acute abdomen assessment suggested acute appendicitis or Meckel's diverticulitis.

Computed tomography (CT) in a 48-year-old man incidentally revealed a raptured pancreatic tail tumor. The patient was treated conservatively because he was asymptomatic, and his general condition was stable.

Both monomers did not undergo homopolymerization, while copolymerization smoothly occurred via the crossover reactions, resulting in alternating copolymers with molecular weights of over 10. The obtained copolymers could be degraded by acid due to the cleavage of the diacyloxymethine moieties, which were derived from the crossover reactions from vinyl acetate to ROPT, in the main chain.

This study evaluated the interobserver error in delineating the organs at risk (OARs) in patients with pancreatic cancer treated with MRgOART. Moreover, we explored the effectiveness of drugs that could suppress peristalsis in restraining intra-fractional motion by evaluating OAR visualization in multiple patients.

Herein, a gene showing selfish behavior was discovered in hybrids between the distantly related rice species and . The selfish allele in the locus impaired male fertility, discriminately eliminating pollens containing the allele from in heterozygotes (/).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA novel immobilized chitosanase was developed and utilized to produce chitosan oligosaccharides (COSs) via chitosan hydrolysis. Magnetite-agar gel particles (average particle diameter: 338 μm) were prepared by emulsifying an aqueous agar solution dispersing 200-nm magnetite particles with isooctane containing an emulsifier at 80 °C, followed by cooling the emulsified mixture. The chitosanase from Bacillus pumilus was immobilized on the magnetite-agar gel particles chemically activated by introducing glyoxyl groups with high immobilization yields (>80%), and the observed specific activity of the immobilized chitosanase was 16% of that of the free enzyme.

Patients And Methods: In this multicenter prospective observational study, 17 angiogenic factors were analyzed in plasma samples collected at pretreatment and progression stages using a Luminex multiplex assay. Patients who received chemotherapy plus bevacizumab (BEV group), FOLFIRI plus ramucirumab (RAM group), or FOLFIRI plus aflibercept (AFL group) as the 2L treatment were included.
Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more useful as a decision-making and outcomes predictor tool. We have developed AI models to predict surgical complexity and the postoperative course in laparoscopic liver surgery for segments 7 and 8.
Methods: We included patients with lesions located in segments 7 and 8 operated by minimally invasive liver surgery from an international multi-institutional database.
Mobilization of transposable elements (TEs) is suppressed by epigenetic mechanisms involving cytosine methylation. However, few studies have focused on clarifying relationships between epigenetic influences of TEs on the adjacent DNA regions and time after insertion of TEs into the genome and/or their chromosomal location. Here we addressed these issues using soybean retrotransposon .

Methods: This observational, retrospective study examined the clinical outcomes for PLWH hospitalized as COVID-19 inpatients in Japan, using data extracted from hospitals with the Diagnosis Procedure Combination (DPC) system between January 2020 and December 2021.
A short-term high-calorie high-fat diet (HCHFD) impairs insulin sensitivity in non-obese South Asian but not Caucasian men; however, the effect of short-term HCHFD on insulin sensitivity in East Asians is unknown. We recruited 21 healthy non-obese Japanese men to evaluate metabolic parameters and gut microbiota before and after 6-day HCHFD consisting of a regular diet plus a 45% energy excess with dairy fat supplementation. We evaluated tissue-specific insulin sensitivity and metabolic clearance rate of insulin (MCRI) using a two-step hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp, glucose tolerance using the glucose tolerance test, and measured ectopic fat in muscle and the liver using ¹H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
