The bleaching process in the C-F stretching mode (ν band) of CHF-(ortho-H) [n = 0 and 1] clusters in solid para-H was monitored using pump and probe laser spectroscopy on the C-H stretching mode (ν and 2ν bands). From an analysis of the depleted spectral profiles, the transition frequency and linewidth of each cluster were directly determined. The results agree with the values previously derived from a deconvolution analysis of the broadened ν/2ν spectrum observed by FTIR spectroscopy.

The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens Standard as amended by the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act requiring the use of safety-engineered medical devices to prevent needlesticks and sharps injuries has been in place since 2001. Injury changes over time include differences between those from non-safety compared with safety-engineered medical devices. This research compares two US occupational incident surveillance systems to determine whether these data can be generalized to other facilities and other countries either with legislation in place or considering developing national policies for the prevention of sharps injuries among healthcare personnel.

Clinical efficacy of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) using reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) for younger patients remains unclear. We therefore performed a retrospective registry-based study to evaluate outcomes for patients with AML aged between 16 and 49 years who underwent RIC allogeneic HCT. Patients receiving RIC (N=125) showed significantly worse survival than those receiving myeloablative conditioning (MAC; N=1,554) (47.

Body mass index (BMI), which represents the proportion of weight to height, is a controversial prognostic factor for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We evaluated prognostic value of BMI in Japanese AML. The study included 369 adult patients with newly diagnosed AML who were administered either daunorubicin or idarubicin with cytarabine as induction chemotherapy.

Background: Patients admitted to hospital can acquire multidrug-resistant organisms and Clostridium difficile from inadequately disinfected environmental surfaces. We determined the effect of three enhanced strategies for terminal room disinfection (disinfection of a room between occupying patients) on acquisition and infection due to meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant enterococci, C difficile, and multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter.

Methods: We did a pragmatic, cluster-randomised, crossover trial at nine hospitals in the southeastern USA.

Trisomy 8 (+8) is one of the most common cytogenetic abnormalities in adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, the outcome of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in adult patients with AML harboring +8 remains unclear. To evaluate, the outcome and prognostic factors in patients with AML harboring +8 as the only chromosomal abnormality or in association with other abnormalities, we retrospectively analyzed the Japanese registration data of 631 adult patients with AML harboring +8 treated with allogeneic HSCT between 1990 and 2013.

In order to examine GvHD prophylaxis in umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT) in more detail, we compared transplant outcomes after UCBT for acute leukemia among GvHD prophylaxes using registry data. We selected patients transplanted with a calcineurin inhibitor and methotrexate (MTX)/mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) combination. A total of 1516 first myeloablative UCBT between 2000 and 2012 (Cyclosporine A (CyA) plus MTX, 824, Tacrolimus (Tac) plus MTX, 554, Tac plus MMF, 138) were included.

Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing Enterobacter cloacae has been recently recognized in the United States. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) has become a useful tool for analysis of outbreaks and for determining transmission networks of multidrug-resistant organisms in health care settings, including carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE). We experienced a prolonged outbreak of CRE E.

Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) is a widely used index of water-quality assessment. Since bioelectrochemical BOD biosensors require anaerobic conditions for anodic reactions, they are not directly used in aerobic environments such as aeration tanks. Normally, the BOD biosensors are closed-type, where the anode is packed inside a closed chamber to avoid exposure to oxygen.

Reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) regimens extend the therapeutic use of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) to older patients. The survival trend in 2325 patients aged >50 years presenting with de novo acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who underwent first reduced-intensity HCT (RIC-HCT) was assessed by retrospectively analyzing outcomes between 2000 and 2013. The annual number of RIC-HCTs in Japan was higher in the 2008-2013 period (n = 205/year [1229/6 years]) than in the 2000-2007 period (n = 137/year [1096/8 years]).

The effect of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) on transplant outcomes after unrelated cord blood transplantation (UCBT) has not been fully elucidated. We analyzed the impact of acute and chronic GVHD on outcomes in adult patients with acute leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome who underwent their first UCBT (n=2558). The effect of GVHD on outcomes was analyzed after adjusting for other significant variables.

'Fuji' is one of the most popular and highly-produced apple cultivars worldwide, and has been frequently used in breeding programs. The development of genotypic markers for the preferable phenotypes of 'Fuji' is required. Here, we aimed to define the haplotypes of 'Fuji' and find associations between haplotypes and phenotypes of five traits (harvest day, fruit weight, acidity, degree of watercore, and flesh mealiness) by using 115 accessions related to 'Fuji'.

To find the abundant and characteristic fibrolytic enzyme-coding gene expressed in fiber-associating microbiota, a metatranscriptomic data set was obtained from fiber-associating microbiota, and it was compared with that of rumen fluid-floating microbiota and two metagenomic data sets. Fibrolytic rumen bacteria associate with plant polysaccharide and hydrolyze it in the rumen. We obtained a metatranscriptomic assembly from fiber-associating microbiota in three ruminally fistulated Holstein cows fed timothy (Phleum pratense) hay.
