Cancer-prone syndrome of premature chromatid separation with mosaic variegated aneuploidy [PCS (MVA) syndrome] is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by constitutional aneuploidy and a high risk of childhood cancer. We previously reported monoallelic mutations in the BUB1B gene (encoding BUBR1) in seven Japanese families with the syndrome. No second mutation was found in the opposite allele of any of the families studied, although a conserved BUB1B haplotype and a decreased transcript were identified.

Using pairings of male crayfish Procambarus clarkii with a 3-7% difference in size, we confirmed that physically larger crayfish were more likely to win encounters (winning probability of over 80%). Despite a physical disadvantage, small winners of the first pairings were more likely to win their subsequent conflicts with larger naive animals (winning probability was about 70%). By contrast, the losers of the first pairings rarely won their subsequent conflicts with smaller naive animals (winning probability of 6%).

The limited locations of tRNA introns are crucial for eukaryal tRNA-splicing endonuclease recognition. However, our analysis of the nuclear genome of an early-diverged red alga, Cyanidioschyzon merolae, demonstrated the first evidence of nuclear-encoded tRNA genes that contain ectopic and/or multiple introns. Some genes exhibited both intronic and permuted structures in which the 3'-half of the tRNA coding sequence lies upstream of the 5'-half, and an intron is inserted into either half.

GATA binding protein 3 (Gata3) is a GATA family transcription factor that controls differentiation of naïve CD4 T cells into T helper 2 (Th2) cells. However, it is unknown how Gata3 simultaneously activates Th2-specific genes while repressing those of other Th lineages. Here we show that chromodomain helicase DNA-binding protein 4 (Chd4) forms a complex with Gata3 in Th2 cells that both activates Th2 cytokine transcription and represses the Th1 cytokine IFN-γ.

Spinal cord transection (SCT) leads to an increase in spontaneous contractile activity in the isolated bladder that is reminiscent of an overactive bladder syndrome in patients with similar damage to the central nervous system. An increase in interstitial cell number in the suburothelial space between the urothelium and detrusor smooth muscle layer occurs in SCT bladders, and these cells elicit excitatory responses to purines and pyrimidines such as ATP, ADP, and UTP. Here, we describe Class II tRNAs with a unique anticodon corresponding to neither leucine nor serine. A 12-membered polyazamacrocycle, 1-oxa-4,7,10-triazacyclododecane-N,N',N″-triacetic acid (ODTA), has been reported to provide an indium chelate of net neutral charge with thermodynamic stability higher than 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-N,N',N″,N‴-tetraacetic acid (DOTA). However, neither synthetic procedure for a C-functionalized ODTA (C-ODTA) nor its chelating ability with a trace amount of radioactive indium-111 ((111)In) has been elucidated. We herein present a facile synthetic procedure for C-ODTA, and estimated its ability as a chelating agent for radiolabeling peptides and proteins with (111)In.
