Purpose: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in cancer patients is high. During the medication review process, clinical pharmacists could detect and manage drug-related problems (DRP) to optimize pharmacotherapy but there is a need to standardize pharmacists' interventions (PI) especially for T2DM-related DRP. The present study aims to describe DRP in cancer patients with T2DM undergoing anticancer treatment (AT) and to propose related preliminary guidelines to manage T2DM-related DRP.

Background: The aging global population forecasts a significant rise in severe trauma cases among individuals aged 65 and above. Frailty emerges as a paramount predictor of post-traumatic outcomes, surpassing age and trauma severity indices. Despite this, scant attention is given to the trajectory of elderly patients post-intensive care unit (ICU) stay following severe trauma, justifying this study.

Background: Uncontrolled gout can cause articular impairment but is also associated with a global and cardiovascular excess mortality, especially in dialysis population. Data documented within existing research is not conclusive regarding gout flares evolution during hemodialysis and their control by urate lowering therapy (ULT). Without clear guidelines concerning hemodialysis patients management with chronic gout, this study proposes to investigate whether gout flare incidence reduction could be observed on this population treated by urate lowering therapy versus patients without treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the rising aging population in France and Western Europe, specifically individuals aged 85 and older, and their mortality risk in trauma centers' ICUs.
  • Conducted from 2013 to 2022, the research analyzed 365 severely injured older patients in 14 ICU trauma centers, assessing their frailty and other clinical variables.
  • High mortality rates were found, with 43.5% in the ICU and 45.5% at 30 days, linked to factors like traumatic brain injury and severe hemorrhage, highlighting the need for early geriatric interventions to improve patient outcomes.

Background: In spite of major effectiveness, a residual risk after COVID-19 primary vaccination was identified, in particular, for vulnerable individuals of advanced age or with comorbidities. Less is known about the Omicron period in people protected by a booster dose. We aimed to identify the characteristics associated with severe COVID-19 during the Omicron period in a population that had received a booster dose in France and to compare differences with the previous periods of the pandemic.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of the cerebellum-to-liver uptake ratio (CLIP) as a prognostic factor for patients with post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD), in addition to the International Prognostic Index (IPI) score.
  • A total of 97 PTLD patients were analyzed, revealing that both a higher IPI score (≥ 3) and lower CLIP (< 3.24) correlated with poorer progression-free survival (PFS) outcomes.
  • While CLIP shows potential as a predictor for PFS, its association with overall survival (OS) was not statistically significant, indicating that further research is needed to validate these findings.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate adherence to methotrexate (MTX) treatment in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients using a new urinary dosage method (METU) and compare it to traditional adherence measurements.* -
  • The research involved 84 RA patients at Reims University Hospital, revealing that 91.7% were considered adherent according to METU, while indirect methods (Medication Possession Ratio and Compliance Questionnaire of Rheumatology) indicated lower adherence rates.* -
  • The results suggest that indirect adherence assessments may not accurately reflect real-life adherence, highlighting the importance of using METU for better understanding treatment responses in RA patients.*

Background: The least significant change (LSC) threshold of 0.03 g/cm² is used to interpret bone mineral density (BMD) scans in the general population. Our working hypothesis was that the current LSC threshold would not be applicable in obese populations.

Objective: We aimed to identify risk factors for nursing home (NH) entry 36 months after hospitalization via the emergency department (ED) in a population of patients aged 75 years or older.

Methods: This was a prospective multicentre cohort. Patients were recruited from the emergency departments (EDs) of nine hospitals.

Patients (pts) with asymptomatic low-burden follicular lymphoma (FL) are usually observed at diagnosis. Time to lymphoma treatment (TLT) initiation can however be very heterogeneous and risk factors of progression are poorly studied. Our study evaluated 201 pts with grade 1-3a low-tumor burden FL diagnosed in four French centers between 2010 and 2020 and managed by a watch and wait strategy in real-life settings.

Many studies have shown the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. We aimed to determine the factors associated with good or poor response to PRP injections in knee osteoarthritis. This was a prospective observational study.

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a rare complication of immunosuppression. Sequential treatment is commonly proposed, combining induction with rituximab (R-induction) followed by either continuation of treatment or addition of chemotherapy depending on response. Response to R-induction, often assessed by CT scan, is a major predictor of overall survival (OS).

Importance: Randomised trials have shown that catheter ablation (CA) is superior to medical therapy for ventricular tachycardia (VT) largely in patients with ischaemic heart disease. Whether this translates to patients with all forms and stages of structural heart disease (SHD-e.g.

Introduction: In older adults, prognostic performances of admission biomarkers have been poorly investigated. This study aims to compare the prognostic abilities of usual admission biomarkers, especially PCT and CRP, for major clinical outcomes, comparing older to younger adults diagnosed with an infection in the ED, and to investigate the prognostic abilities of PCT and CRP depending on the glomerular filtration rate (GFR).

Methods: It was an observational, single-center, retrospective study, conducted in the Reims University Hospital, France.

Background: ADC (apparent coefficient diffusion) value has been known to predict hemorrhage transformation (HT) after thrombolysis and recently, after mechanical thrombectomy (MT). We aimed to evaluate that utility separately in basal ganglia and superficial territory. We used HT occurrence with or without NIHSS change as primary outcome measures.

Hypertension continues to be the leading modifiable risk factor for stroke, kidney disease and cardiovascular disease, and it also plays a key role in a significant proportion of preventable deaths globally. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is an underutilised tool that augments the accurate diagnosis of hypertension. Out-of-office blood pressure measurements such as ABPM, permits the diagnosis of white coat hypertension and masked hypertension as well as determining a patient's nocturnal dipping status.

Background: The SARS-COV2 pandemic has been ongoing worldwide since at least 2 years. In severe cases, this infection triggers acute respiratory distress syndrome and quasi-systemic damage with a wide range of symptoms. Long-term physical and psychological consequences of this infection are therefore naturally present among these patients.

Background: Severe forms of SARS-CoV-2 infections are associated with high rates of thromboembolic complications. Professional societies and expert consensus reports have recommended anticoagulants for COVID-19 hospitalized patients. Our study aimed to compare the effect of therapeutic, intermediate and prophylactic doses of heparin on 6-week survival in patients hospitalized for COVID-19.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is responsible for an important premature mortality. Pharmacists involved in community-based pharmaceutical care services could help patients with diabetes through education and management as they participate in their regular and long-term care. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between interventions led by pharmacists in the primary care setting and mean change in HbA1c levels.

Objective: Pemetrexed is associated with hematological toxicity. Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) between methotrexate and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) induce a higher risk of hematological toxicity due to the inhibition of methotrexate excretion by PPIs. As pemetrexed and methotrexate are both excreted by human organic anion transporter 3 (hOAT3), this study investigates the hypothetical DDI between pemetrexed and PPIs in lung cancer patients.
