Proton-Pump Inhibitors and Risk of Bloodstream Infection without an Identifiable Source: a Hospital-Based Case-Control Study.

The association between proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) use and systemic infections caused by bacterial translocation is unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether patients receiving PPI therapy have a higher risk of bloodstream infections (BSI) without an identifiable source of infection. We conducted a hospital-based case-control study which enrolled all patients aged 20 years and older who were hospitalized in Ichinomiya Nishi Hospital with BSI confirmed by two sets of positive blood cultures in 2019.

The safety and feasibility of endoscopic submucosal dissection using a flexible three-dimensional endoscope for early gastric cancer and superficial esophageal cancer: A prospective observational study.

Background And Aim: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is performed as one of standard treatments for patients with early gastric cancer (EGC) and superficial esophageal squamous cancer (SESCC). A prototype of a flexible endoscope with a 3-D system has been recently developed. This study aimed to investigate the safety and feasibility of ESD using a 3-D flexible endoscope (3-D ESD) for EGC and SESCC.

Diagnostic ability of Japan Narrow-Band Imaging Expert Team classification for colorectal lesions by magnifying endoscopy with blue laser imaging versus narrow-band imaging.

The Japan Narrow-band imaging (NBI) Expert Team (JNET) classification was proposed for evaluating colorectal lesions. However, it remains unknown whether the JNET classification can be applied to magnifying endoscopy with image-enhanced endoscopies other than NBI. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic ability of JNET classification by magnifying endoscopy with blue laser imaging (ME-BLI) and with ME-NBI.

Preeclampsia before 20 weeks of gestation: a case report and review of the literature.

The occurrence of preeclampsia before 20 weeks of gestation is rare and usually associated with trophoblastic diseases or antiphospholipid syndrome. Here, we report a case of preeclampsia before 20 weeks of gestation in the absence of the aforementioned disorders. A healthy 30-year-old nulliparous woman presented with new onset of hypertension and proteinuria at 18 weeks of gestation.
