Background/purpose: The efficacy and safety of posaconazole compared to fluconazole as antifungal prophylaxis in patients receiving allogeneic blood hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) during the early neutropenic phase without graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) was uncertain.
Methods: The medical records of allo-HSCT recipients from a single institution, who received oral fluconazole (from January 2005 to June 2011) or oral posaconazole (from June 2011 to December 2013) during the early neutropenic phase (until engraftment), were retrospectively reviewed.
Results: There were 52 allo-HSCT recipients, two of whom were younger than 18 years of age.
Background: Indian hedgehog (Ihh) signaling pathway is known to play key roles in various aspects of normal endochondral bone development. This study tested the potential roles of high Ihh signaling in the context of injury-induced bone regeneration.
Methods: A rabbit tibia defect model was established to test the effects of the implant of Ihh/mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)/scaffold complex.
Object: To date, formulation of the optimal surgical protocol for noncontiguous multilevel cervical spondylosis remains controversial, and the corresponding clinical data continue to be limited. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of two hybrid reconstructive techniques in noncontiguous 3-level cervical spondylosis (2 contiguous disc levels and 1 "skip" disc level [nonoperated level between 2 operated levels]). The incidence of adjacent-segment degeneration (ASD) was also evaluated.

However, the mechanism of waltonitone-induced toxicity remains unclear. In the present study, we treated H460 and H3255 lung cancer cells using different concentration of waltonitone (0, 10, 20, 30 μmol/L).

Patients with advanced hepatic cancer who underwent liver transplant and subsequent therapy between March 2007 and March 2009 in our hospital were selected for this study. All of these patients were treated with chemotherapeutic agent adriamycin, with respect to immunosuppressant, whereas they received either TAC or CycA, and hence represented two groups, TAC and controls, respectively.

The present study was conducted to investigate whether cucurbitacin B (CuB), one of the most potent and widely used cucurbitacins, inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis in the A549 lung cancer cell line. Furthermore, CuB induced apoptosis of A549 cells in a -concentration-dependent manner, as determined by fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and transmission electron microscopy.

Previous studies have suggested that an apoptosis inducer may be encoded in the non-structural protein (nsP1a) of astrovirus and contribute to virus-induced diarrhea.

Increasing mammography screening frequency from biennially to annually has been suggested as a policy option to address the elevated risk in this population. The purpose of this study was to assess the cost-effectiveness of annual versus biennial screening mammography among women aged 50-79 with dense breast tissue.

We report the first case of an Anaeroglobus geminates invasive infection in humans characterized by pneumonia complicated with empyema. The pathogen was initially identified as Veillonella spp.

A clinical suspicion of bacterial meningitis should be recognized early for the rapid diagnostic workup. Bacterial meningitis associated with ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) is not uncommon and infrequently presents as abdominal symptoms and signs.

In most cases of adrenal insufficiency, viral encephalitis-related panhypopituitarism is a rare complication that is sporadically encountered in previous studies. However, this complication has never been reported in rabies encephalitis because of the extremely high rate of mortality.

This study compared the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with TMP-SXT-susceptible (TSSSM) and TMP-SXT-resistant S. maltophilia (TSRSM) monomicrobial bacteremia.

Environmental exposure to AS represents a major global health concern, because AS is a well-established human carcinogen. We hypothesize that low concentration of AS could enhance metastasis and proliferation of transformed cancer cells by promoting EMT.

Methods: A retrospective review was performed for 239 patients on a systemic respiratory management mode after complete cervical spinal cord injury in Shanghai Changzheng Hospital from 2006 to 2012. Their demographic and clinical data, including age, gender, cause of injury, level of cervical spinal cord injuries, surgical approaches, tracheostomy rates and mortality rates, were collected and analyzed.
Heterotopic ossification (HO), acquired or hereditary, is featured by the formation of bone outside of the normal skeleton. Typical acquired HO is a common, debilitating condition associated with traumatic events. Cardiovascular calcification, an atypical form of acquired HO, is prevalent and associated with high rates of cardiovascular mortality.

To establish detection and response capacity, WNV surveillance and prevention was supported through CDC Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) cooperative agreements with all 50 states and six large cities/counties. In 2005, the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) conducted an assessment of ELC recipients and determined that, since 1999, all had developed WNV surveillance and control programs, resulting in a national arboviral surveillance infrastructure.

Methods: Randomized Controlled Trials about needle-knife treatment of cervical spondylosis were indexed from Chinese HowNet (CNKI) and Wanfang (WF) from 2000 to 2012, then were analyzed the efficacy by Review Manager 5.1 software.
Background: Although both researchers and practitioners widely recognize therapeutic alliance's importance in general psychotherapy, studies specific to alcohol use treatments have produced mixed results and generally do not investigate if and how alliance changes over course of treatment.
Methods: Using parallel process latent growth curve modeling, the authors examined if increase in alliance was associated with reduced drinking behaviors and a statistical mediator in the relationship between treatment modality and outcome. The authors used data from Project MATCH (J Stud Alcohol.
ARID1A (AT-rich interactive domain 1A) is a key member of the SWI/SNF chromatin-modeling complex, and the gene has emerged as a tumor suppressor in various human cancers. In the present study, we investigated the expression and clinical significance of ARID1A in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We found that ARID1A expression was decreased in NSCLC tissues compared with normal bronchial epithelium and was significantly correlated with nodal metastasis, tumor, node, metastasis (TNM) stage, and poor differentiation.

It is of interest great to know the pain responses in these mice and how the opioid signaling is involved in the downstream events such as mast cell (MC) activation.
Materials And Methods: This study utilized a transgenic mouse model of HO in which BMP4 is expressed under the control of the Nse-BMP4.
Background: The analytical performances of the NT-proBNP and BNP assays on the Cobas E601 and ADVIA Centaur were thoroughly evaluated. In addition, the values of BNP and NT-proBNP, which are heart failure markers, were compared in the diagnosis of HF patients with or without acute cerebral infarction since they could also be elevated in ischemic stroke.
Methods: Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) documents were employed in the analytical evaluation of NT-proBNP and BNP assays on the Cobas E601 and ADVIA Centaur.

Methods: We selected 40 Wistar male rats in this study, 10 as normal controls, and the other 30 made AIP models by intradermal injection of protein purification liquid from the prostate of allogeneic male rats with dual immune adjuvant. Then we randomly divided the AIP models into a model, a Cernilton control and an EA group of equal number, the latter two groups treated by Cernilton enema and EA, respectively.
